He is definitely deserving of his own thread. Within the last two days Indicator has shipped my box set, Eureka has shipped my copy of Rio Grande and I acquired a copy of the OOP Drums Along the Mohawk off of eBay. Can never have enough John Ford!

I still have to place an order for the Indicator set and "Rio Grande". More Ford isn't a bad thing.

Sounds very positive. I've been revisiting some of my Chaplin/Keaton silents recently and need to give this one a spin. My copy of Hell Bent just arrived today as well. BTW, you need to add that title to your OP

Great thread idea. We've had frustratingly few of these make it over to the UK, though Indicators recent set was an unexpected delight.

Looks like the Kim Newman interview is the only extra not on the Kino versions. Will a David M encode make these worth a double dip? I am a sucker for slipcovers. Decisons, decisons...

I haven't picked up either Kino release so this MoC will be fine for me.

Please do. Loved both of them, especially Hell Bent. Harry Carey's performance was fantastic. I was crying at the end.

Yeah, I found it to be average but will still pick it up on sale if it has extras or a commentary. The back story of the film is incredibly sad due to the death of Fred Kennedy during filming. John Ford lost interest in the film after the tragedy and even abandoned the final battle scene which was supposed to be epic. Instead they just blew up a bridge. The Duke was pre-occupied with The Alamo during the filming of The Horse Soldiers as well. Here's a good little article about the film....

I am bias towards The Horse Soldiers- Bill Holden and Duke- two of my faves. The opening sequence is awesome I must say, John Wayne coming down the stairs just as Ford's name appears - gotta love that. Plus the intro song, I adore it!

Yeah, who am I kidding? I’ll always go back to it and keep giving it multiple second chances. At some point, I’m sure it will work and convert me.
