Screen Media will release on Blu-ray Rod Lurie's action thriller The Outpost (2020), starring Caleb Landry Jones, Scott Eastwood, Milo Gibson, Orlando Bloom, and Will Attenborough. The release will be available for purchase on August 18.

Synopsis: Based on true events, in this military thriller, a small unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh, as it was known, was the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle) and adapted by Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) the film stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom with Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrict, Milo Gibson, Jacob Scipio, Taylor John Smith, Jonathan Yunger. Three troops who fought at COP Keating appear in the film including Medal of Honor recipient Ty Carter.

The Outpost is based on The New York Times best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor from CNN's Jake Tapper.

Trailer actually looks interesting.I believe that this film is available and an on demand rental, starting today. I believe it is available on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and Vudu; not sure about any others. I may try to catch it this weekend on Amazon.

As an aside, I actually remember when the director, Rod Lurie, had a weekend radio show here in L.A. as a movie critic.

The Rod Laurie show was great! Used to listen to it while going around to record stores.

Used to talk about his pet project The Contender and it was written specifically for Joan Allen.

Really liked The Contender. I have it as one of my last remaining DVD's; waiting for the long overdue Blu-ray to get released.

Agreed, actually I thought it was one of the most intense war movies since Black Hawk Down.
Yes, that`s how good I thought it was and I`d highly recommend giving it a watch.
The poster made it look like a trash B movie and I had my doubts when I started watching it, but it was one of the biggest pleasant surprises I watched in a very long time.
Definite collection addition for me.

I watched this last night. First 45 minutes were a bit slow at times but it paid off in the end. Good movie

I am really bummed they aren't doing a 4K release. There is no excuse for new releases not getting 4K. This film deserves that quality and an Atmos immersive soundtrack. An Atmos track would be insane.

I guess I'm going to go ahead and just buy the VOD HDX since there is no UHD release on the horizon and no reason to wait a month. This movie kicks ass!

My guess is that if it ever does have a 4K release, it will only be digital. Such a shame as this is an incredible movie.

It is 4k SDR at both iTunes and FandangoNow. I think I'm going to purchase the streaming version in 4k.
