It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we have to inform you our site owner Samuel Scott suddenly passed at the young age of 36. His passing was far too early and he will be missed.

Sam had a profound love for movies and it showed in his collection and his devotion to keeping this website alive. If you've met Sam in person or through this site you would have met a wonderful human. Sam has been a good friend to a lot of us.

As it stands, we will be keeping DVDcompare going, since this is what Sam would have wanted. For the time being, operations as usual. But do expect certain changes to occur in the near future.

Rest in peace Sam, you will be missed dearly.

That's awful news. I remember visiting DVDCompare a lot back in the 2000s to triple check that no UK versions I was planning on picking up had been cut.

That's horrible news. I check DVDCompare every single time before I buy something (most of the times things are listed, sometimes I have to research elsewhere) and their accuracy is for the most part pretty good. I don't think I could be a collector without DVDCompare, the number of hours I've spent on the website and the amount of times I've visited are pretty immense.

Sam was a regular here too when he had the time. This is genuinely heartbreaking news.

There's rarely a week that goes by when I don't use the site, it's such a valuable resource.

Deepest condolences to Sam's family and friends, a great loss to us all.

Very sad.
Any physical media collector worth their salt would have no doubt used dvdcompare, I know I use it very regularly. It’s proved to be an invaluable resource down the years.

Horrible news. I've used that site as long as I can remember. Always checked if the dvd I was planning on picking up was cut or not. Saved me a lot of heartache.

I've used his site sparingly over the years.
Not as much as anyone else here, but when I did, I always found it extremely handy.

My brother had a message from them last week informing us of the untimely death.

We have written reviews for them under a pseudonym, and Mr S was always our main contact there. He was lovely, courteous and always grateful for any stuff we could offer.

This is pretty sh**y news for anyone who has made informed choices thanks to their site - and that's a considerable number of people.
