Profile 2.0 Question - Blu-ray Forum

Ok, I have a guy telling people that profile 2.0 enabled blu-rays will 'contain a whole new java interface' and thus won't play on a profile 1.0 player.

My understanding was, a profile 1.0 machine, with the latest firmware, should play any movie, with a slightly longer load time. The only thing you'll miss out on are the web enabled features, or the PIP in 1.1?

Whats deal?

only the new - totally useless - PiP and internet connectivity won't work with 1.0 players

You will be able to watch any BLU-RAY MOVIE on any blu-ray player. PERIOD. As TheTenth says, PiP and internet content will not be accessible on a 1.0 player, but you can still view the movie and listen to all the sound formats (Dolby, DTS, PCM), which is the reason you got the title. You will be able to see the video that would be PiP, but you will just have to view it separately.

Yeah, thats exactly what I've been telling this guy - but he's 100% convinced that he's right, no matter what I say.

I was hoping someone could pick up Saw IV today and confirm that their 1.0 player does not explode upon inserting the disc.

I guess you can ask him where he got his information from?!? Has he seen it choke on a 2.0 disc? So until he and you see it working or non-working, tell him it's all FUD.
