Default Oscar Nominations

Here is the list on CNN

Ouch, no American Gangster for Best Picture or Shrek the 3rd for best animated.

Shrek wouldn't have a chance against the Rat but isn't it an honor to just be nominated?

It's not like they were left off because of the overwhelming number of nominees. Do they have a rule that only 3 animated films can be nominated and 1 of them has to be (or sound) foreign?

2. All submissions sent to the Academy will be screened by the Academy’s Animated Feature Film Award Screening Committee(s). After the screenings, the committee(s) will vote by secret ballot to nominate 3 to 5 films for this award. In any year in which 8 to 15 animated features are released in Los Angeles County, a maximum of 3 films may be nominated. In any year in which 16 or more animated features are submitted and accepted in the category, a maximum of 5 films may be nominated.
From the rules.

So there can be more than 3 nominees, but that would require a bumper crop of animated features.

No Bee Movie either. Didn't see it, don't care to. What else could have been nominated? TMNT? I am drawing a blank here.

I am really shocked and disappointed that 3:10 to Yuma was not nominated for Best Picture, and James Mangold for Best Director. Not to mention Russell Crowe or Christian Bale for Best Actor in that movie.

this year's nomination is the most disappointing i've ever seen....

Surf's Up competing against Ratatouille??? No chance..... Where is the simpsons movie?

ALmost none of my fav movies made it there. except pirates 3, golden compass, and above all, RATATOUILLE

golden compass was awful so that might have something to do with it not making it. No offense mind you.

I'm pretty content with the movies that made it I've seen most of them and there all pretty deserving of a nod.
