Default PSYCHO 60th Anniversary Edition

Found out from reading the US thread that the mono track is not the original
mono track but a fold down of the surround track. Replacement programs have been put in place for US and UK customers so I've reached out to Universal via their Facebook page to see if they will do the same for us.

Disappointed. I would’ve purchased this on its first day of release, but then I discovered the original mono audio track wasn’t included.

I’ll stick with the 50th anniversary edition until this issue gets fixed.

Had no response from Universal via social media.

This seems to be the correct email address to enquire about a replacement program locally...

Oh. This may be the reason why the German release has been pushed back from October 2020 to June 2021. I was wondering what could have been the problem because the release was already available in the US and the discs should be the same worldwide.

This is the response I got today..

"Universal Sony Pictures Australia has advised they have not followed what the USA has released.

Australia has their own Blu Ray release with their own Blu Ray disc."

I have absolutely no idea what this means. I seriously doubt that Universal Australia sourced their own audio tracks for a local release.

They authored their own disc and used the correct mono is what it sounds like.

Have you seen the local disc or are you just assuming the mono is wrong?

I have the disc and going from the menu, which includes their usual symbols instead of words, it seems identical to the international release which I assume is what the UK got and a replacement program has been created for their release. Besides, it was released worldwide in the same week so it's highly unlikely that they only got the Aussie disc right.

They have sent me another email stating that a replacement disc will be issued at the end of October but they don't mention anything about the mono track being the issue. For all I know, they'll just be sending out the same disc again. They haven't addressed it at all in either of the emails they've sent me, despite me going into detail about it and sending them screengrabs of the statements made by Universal for their US and UK replacement programs.

Okay, so you are assuming. Maybe check the mono first.

The discs are different, we got a whole bunch of extra language options, however the 'mono' is just a mixdown of the remastered 5.1.

My experience of dealing with major labels in Australia is that the person tasked with answering these kinds of queries has no technical knowledge whatsoever. I mean surely they could make enquires to the authoring department on your behalf, but I don't think that even occurs to them.

Hopefully others here who bought the disc locally will send them an email. I was very thorough and clear in my explanation of what the issue is and advised them that replacement programs are in place for the US and UK releases, but I wasn't convinced that they understood what I was on about.

I just hope that the replacement disc they referred to just isn't another copy of the one they've already released.

As suspected the replacement disc was exactly the same as the original. However, they did send me a follow up email acknowledging this, without any prompting from me, stating that their US division has advised them of the incorrect audio issue and will contact me when they receive the corrected master.
