The Kid Detective (2020)

Sony Pictures will be releasing The Kid Detective (2020) to Blu-ray on 19 Jan 2021. This will be a pressed MOD release.

A once-celebrated kid detective, now 31, continues to solve the same trivial mysteries between hangovers and bouts of self-pity. Until a naive client brings him his first 'adult' case - to find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend.

I had a lot of fun with this movie. It was right up my alley with a combo of indie-dramedy and neo-noir. The jokes and overall vibes help disguise how tightly-plotted it is. I'll be picking this one up!

I wanted to see this when it first came out but missed it, so I'm happy to see it getting a blu-ray release.

Great movie, one of 2020's best movies. It's pretty engaging and fun at the start and then it doesn't hold back the dark shit by the end.

Good question, even though this release is a MOD disc, it will be a pressed one not a BD-R. (Not that you asked that.)

I am looking at other Sony MOD releases here on Blu-ray.com, and if the information is accurate there is 50% it could be region free;

Despite it being "made on demand", the actual disc quality and production won't be any different from the studio's other releases. So it depends on the studio. Sony is pretty good keeping things region free or at least both A & B compatible. I'd be shocked if it's locked to A, but absolutely wait for confirmation until buying, just in case something is different about the release.

I bought this on the strength of the reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. Great movie. By far the best work that I have ever seen out of Adam Brody. Plus I love detective movies with a sardonic wit.

I ended up getting this and Yellow Rose at HBP for like $12 each a few months ago. Re-watching this now, first seen it in theatres, and it holds up.

Wish we could get a sequel somehow.

Tragically, I believe it's just the movie. A commentary with Morgan and Brody would've been great.

Just finished watching this - thought it was a great film. Comedic and pretty lighthearted until it veers effortlessly into darkness towards the end. Brilliant
