Default Untitled Indiana Jones Game | Bethesda

Quote:
A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, @MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with @LucasfilmGames. It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news! ×

Well this is not something I was expecting in the slightest. Interesting that Machine games is the developer. I believe all they make is FPS games like the Wolfenstein franchise.

Probably too much to hope that it's an adventure-y sequel to Fate of Atlantis, given that it's from the makers of Wolfenstein?

Big Indy fan so I'll give it a go when it presumably hits Gamepass at launch.

Huge Indiana Jones fan, but i'm not going to buy an Xbox for this. Really hoping it also comes to the PS5.

This might align with the new Indiana Jones movie in development. I hope it's 3rd person over the shoulder open world adventure.

But I predict it'll be much like Uncharted but without the guns, since Indy rarely uses guns.
Yeah, hopefully Bethesda has the right to distribute it to any console they want, even though MS controls them. MS controls Minecraft, yet that managed its way to PS4 after that deal was made.

As this isn't an IP that Bethesda own (I thought Disney owned the franchise following their purchase of Lucasfilm), I would be surprised if it didn't release on all platforms. Surely Lucasfilm wouldn't want to limit the games selling potential by only releasing it on Xbox and PC?

If it doesn't arrive on PlayStation, then that's a lost sale. In fact, if it's Game Pass, then arguably it'll lose plenty of potential sales!

I'm a fan of the first three films, but I can't say I'm overly bothered about this announcement.

Well, I'll hold off judgement until we see it in action but the news on it's own doesn't immediately have me itching for an Xbox (assuming it's exclusive, which I don't think it will be).

You mean like how the Disney owned Marvel totally wouldn't make a spider-man game exclusive to a console and limit its sales?

Any company can make a Spider-Man game, right? It just so happens Sony had an exclusive studio of theirs make a Spider-Man game then they paid Square Enix money to make the same character exclusive. If Sony didn't own the movie rights they probably wouldn't have paid to have an exclusive developer make a Spider-Man game then pay Square Enix for that same character.

Or PC too. But I'd rather it on PS5 for sure.

From "screenrant"

https://screenrant.com/spider-man-pl...0entire%20time.

Although Sony now owns Insomniac Games, neither company has any exclusive game rights to the Spider-Man character, nor did Sony ever have said rights to begin with. Presumably, Marvel has owned the video game rights to the superhero this entire time. A temporary partnership between Sony and Marvel is what granted Sony the ability to launch Marvel’s Spider-Man as an exclusive on their own platforms. It’s likely a similar deal was orchestrated to allow Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to launch as a PS5 exclusive. At the end of the day, it seems Marvel is the sole proprietor of the Spider-Man video game rights

Personally I'm not overly keen on this type of exclusivity for characters that aren't part of a consoles IP, I'd be pretty irritated if Xbox announced an exclusive Superman game for instance and it was bad enough when they had a one year deal for the Square Enix Tomb Raider game a few years back. But this article underlines that Sony have no special control over Spider-Man in games, despite having the movie rights.

Even if Marvel owns the character, it must have been Sony's decision to keep the game exclusive. The fact that Spider-man is exclusive in the Avenger's game means that deals were made.

So no new real information with that page lol. Marvel owns the character, but Sony has/had exclusive rights to it.

There's always been a rumor that SONY own a little bit of Spidey, but I don't think it's ever been confirmed.

Never seen any Indiana Jones movies so I don't have a pre-existing attachment to the franchise beyond the Disneyland ride so I'm looking at this to be a good game first and a worthy addition to the franchise last. Uncharted is mentioned a lot in relation to this but I hope it does something a bit newer than that, something that makes it stand out as a story and a game. Hoping for similar gameplay so 3rd person, interesting puzzles, fun gameplay, and most importantly well written/acted characters and story.

Unfortunately rumblings are this will likely be PC and Xbox only but if it turns out to be a good game, I hope it can make it's way to PS5.

Nah, something I made up. Whatever they come up with should be somewhat vague so it would work across sequels while actually allowing the stories to be separate.

It being (mostly) first person = no thanks, I'm out.

What a baffling design decision. Troy Baker sound very good as Harrison, though.

I thought I remember a long time ago an Indiana Jones game coming from Lucas Arts around 2008 or something and it looked like it could be fun. It was called the Staff of Rah or I don't know.

It's probably not coming to Playstation but after 20 odd years of Tomb Raider and Uncharted, I don't see it bringing much new to the table.

Starfield remains my only reason for getting a Series X and only then after reviews.
