**DOG SOLDIERS update**
For several weeks we've been in discussion about the possibility of access to the negative to scan and create a new 4K restoration. We’re very excited to say this will be going ahead and we plan to release on 4K UHD later in the year. The restoration will be a long process but we will update with progress as soon as we can. We think the wait will be worth it!

Its 4K SDR on iTunes UK. Can see many signs of print damage and raised blacks. Heard the previous restoration was done using shoestring budget. Hoping they secure decent funding to do a proper restoration from OCN.

Well the Dawn release paid off. Hopefully that despite it's expense gave them some big capital to play with.

Yes.

I believe it's a similar story with Guns of Navarone. Sony did a good job with remastering it.

Holy balls. I do wonder what convinced them to basically start from scratch instead of accessing the current 4K transfer. I'll have to aks Chris.

Audio glitches, wrong black levels, maybe they can even improve some of the scenes with the subpar source elements and under further news, Second Sight's compression will most likely be better as well, since it'll most likely be a FiM job (the latter isn't an actual issue with the Koch release though).

It's almost like an unrestored transfer. Brand new 4K scan from the negative, yes, but there's very little dirt/scratch cleanup, visible 'jumps' at every edit point, the audio is missing a line or two of dialogue, no HDR and it's even been encoded in the wrong levels, the blacks are badly washed out. Onto fleabay it goes, though I'm keeping the Shout as it's a scan of a print and has a proper Grindhouse kinda feel.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but I'd like to see SS soon branch out from horror with UHD. I know horror has proven it self to butter the bread, but theirs definitely other non horror properties they could take a shot at.

I do like the release though even though it’s not perfect. It was better than anything we got before. If the new release is better I’ll gladly buy it.

Exactly. If it was the only 4K ever released of DOG SOLDIERS, I would’ve considered us all lucky. That said, we all know this new release is gonna decimate the German release.

Sums up how the iTunes 4K SDR looked. Most likely from the same master.

If SecondSight doesn't release this on digital, will have to get physical again just like I did with Pitch Black and Tremors. I hope they do a vanilla release of DoTD and this.
