I don't like anything from Malick so far, so Coppola gets the vote.

Francis Ford Coppola because of The Godfather alone.

70s era Coppola is just amazing. Malick is an acquired taste which never clicked for me.

Coppola, the only Terrence Malick film I have seen is The Thin Red Line and that was a chore to get through.

Malick is not an hack, his visual style and directing is top notch.

He wouldn't be ranked here, or having Oscar noms or film in AFI and TSPT list..

Coppola.
Even as a gigantic Scorsese and Malick fan.
Coppola at his peak>>>>Scorsese at his peak.

The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather Part 2
Apocalypse Now

No one had a better run of four consecutive films in cinema history than him in the 70s.

Coppola for me.

The Godfather and Apocalypse Now are simply too much.

Coppola, Malick’s movies are not my cup of tea, although I have yet to watch A Hidden Life.

Hard to compare, as they are very different directors. In the end I went with Coppola for his 70s output. But I love Malick also.

i love apocalypse now and dracula, but the new world and tree of life break conventions while also being masterpieces. voting for terry for making films the way he wants to, without ever compromising his vision

coppola had the best run of films possibly in the history of cinema:

the godfather-the conversation-the godfather II-apocalypse now

those 4 movies deserve the be in the top 100, possibly higher, of any director, but he made them in a row. Absurd, crazy talent.

Im not a fan of malick at all, but even if I was, to compare him with a monster of cinema like coppola is ridiculous

Hard to argue against...

THE GODFATHER
GODFATHER, PART II
THE CONVERSATION
APOCALYPSE NOW

thats like more important director of the 1970s decade itself.
