In the tradition of Movie Poll’s random but thematically related polls, here is a contest between

Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)
Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane (1941)

80 years apart (yet so close!), two films in the academy ratio, purportedly the magnum opus of both men who were constantly thwarted by studios, their genius restrained and their work recut and reshot by other directors. They re-emerge from the devastation wrought by studio execs (on them and their devotees) as phoenixes – always striving for greater excellence and pushing the boundaries of cinema ever further.

I voted Citizen Kane. Despite being as old as it is, it's on another level and there's a reason it continues to be remembered and tops the polls for greatest ever films.

I will quite literally choose ANYTHING over Citizen Kane. Any day of the week. I never want to watch that movie ever again after the film class I took where a deep analysis of framing was required. I passed with flying colors, but...

What is so objectionable about Citizen Kane. It is a watchable and entertaining and engrossing movie.

Is it just because you had to see it too many times to write your paper?

I’d rather a version of CK badly dubbed in German at full blast and with a host of George Lucas special editions on repeat non-stop, tied to a chair Clockwork Orange style, than have to sit through ZSJL ever again.

I feel that way about CK. I'd rather watch any Uwe Boll movie on a loop than ever sit through CK again.

ZSJL... CK is of course an essential classic, but I have no desire to ever revisit it.
