Arrow The Last of Us PS5 Remake in the works

Quote:
Sony studios are reportedly working on a remake of The Last of Us, while Sony Bend begins work on a new game after an unsuccessful 2019 pitch to make Days Gone 2.

In a new Bloomberg report into dissatisfaction among Sony's lesser-known studios, sources say that a Last of Us remake codenamed T1X was started by Michael Mumbauer, the founder of Visual Arts Service Group (a Sony developer that traditionally assists development on PlayStation Studios' games).

Mumbauer apparently assembled a new, 30-strong development group and – after passing on the idea of a remake of the first Uncharted game – settled on a remake of 2013's The Last of Us. However, the team reportedly ran into trouble after Sony kept their existence a secret, and refused to offer extra budget. Head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst apparently deemed the project too expensive, and Mumbauer's team was moved to support development of The Last of Us 2.

Bloomberg's sources say that, after The Last of Us 2 was completed, Sony moved multiple Naughty Dog developers onto the T1X project, and the remake effectively became a Naughty Dog project. Mumbauer and other original developers have now left the company, but development on the remake is apparently continuing.

As part of the same report, Bloomberg also says that Sony Bend pitched a sequel to Days Gone after the game's release in 2019, but was rejected. Sony then apparently moved Bend developers onto two Naughty Dog projects – a multiplayer game (presumably the standalone Last of Us multiplayer game) and a new Uncharted project (which has also been rumoured recently).

I dunno how many times we’re gonna be expected to buy the same game over and over again.

Such a waste of development time. The PS4 updated version is perfectly fine. Is everyone becoming Nintendo now? Resell the same games every console generation using the excuse that we want to allow new users who didn't get to experience the game on our previous console.

Or just be gamer friendly and offer proper backwards compatibility like Microsoft. A game should be at least 15 years old or more to honestly be a reason to do a remaster.

You're not.

This is almost certainly part of the build up to the Last of Us tv series. It's also important to remember that every year someone picks up a console for the first time. TLoU is a huge title for Sony so it makes sense they want bring the game (that first appeared in June 2013) to a new audience, alongside the tv show.

No one has to buy it if you've already played it (I played it through on PS3 and PS4), but there will be plenty of new gamers who have heard of it, but haven't played it.

However if it means that it takes away from New experiences because development teams and budgets are limited then, sorry, this isn't cool. I can pick up a console for the first time and play games already made from previous generations for free. Oh wait that's Microsofts strategy for new gamers. We're talking money hungry Sony here.

You're right I don't need to buy it. However if this is my only choice over a new chapter in the series that's bullshit.

I would've been fine if they just updated TLOU with TLOU2 gameplay and crafting mechanics. I will buy it for the 3rd time, it is my 2nd favorite game ever made.

This.

I don’t think they can bump the Resolution up from the PS4 SDK, just Framerate.

Red Dead Redemption remade for PS5 would be welc- on second thought, nevermind. We already have that map with improved graphics with RDR2 and John Marsten too. No need for the prequel remaster now IMO.

lol what remaking a game that's not even 10 years old and was remastered on PS4. Sony just keeps taking L's this generation so far. If they don't get it together Xbox will take their #1 spot.

Jesus Christ, they're going to have naughty dog making the literal same game over and over again till the end of time. I mean shit, five years after this remake is out they may as well start remaking it again right? 2018 is when this game entered production, five years after the original. Every generation is someones first playstation, so apparently this makes sense right?

It doesn't need to be remade, it still looks and plays very well indeed.

Also, after the story direction of the second one why bother returning to those characters?

Sequel really did hurt the overall reception for the series. I'm sure the show will bring back the hype though.

Sony making or approving a lot of decisions lately that really irritate me. Flushing out Japan Studio, shutting down the PS3 store, and now a needless remake of a game that, for all intents and purposes still looks and plays fine has made me think I bet the wrong horse by buying a PS5.

This is crazy they are remaking this. They should remaster The God of War Saga for PS4/PS5.

What a waste of time and resources that could be better used on something else.

As long as it's not a remake of a masterpiece Last of Us game from Naughty Dog, then that's fine if it's based on the TV series in the works.

Too bad about Sony Bend not getting to create Days Gone 2.
