Default HBO Max planning ad-supported version for $9.99 monthly starting in June

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/28/warn...d-hbo-max.html

Unfortunately the only source for this seems to be CNBC and other news sites are sourcing CNBC, which isn't always accurate. I kind of doubt the June timeline but wtf do I know anyhow.

But if it is... and if they implement the ads correctly like the ability to frontload ads before a movie starts or don't have too many commercial breaks, then it might not be a bad deal to those open to it. I could always switch back if I hate it.

In the verge article in the first sentence it links to a CNBC article and says: according to a new report from CNBC.

If CNBC was the "first" to report it, OF COURSE every other article is going to link to it.

It's not any different than a baseball trade where Tauchman got shipped from the Yankees to the Giants...first reported by Ken Rosenthal via "The Athletic" (using this STRICTLY as an example).

Hate commercials, wouldn't even consider this. But at least they will not interrupt (and thus cheapen) HBO shows according to the article.

...and it doesn't include the theatrical movie releases either.

Which again I wonder, WHY would somebody actually want the ad version just to save $5 bucks and be denied prolly the BEST reason to get HBO Max in the first place?

Just switched from ad-free to with ads, I can stomach ads for 33% less a month.

I'd consider the annual plan, at $149.99 it comes out to about $12.50 monthly, you don't lose any programming and you STILL get to see the movie premieres. If that's not convincing enough consider its only $.51 more than their monthly plan of $11.99 for the first year which expired last month.

Ads are AWFUL, IMO. I'll always pay MORE for ad-free if the option exists.
Consider: Lets say you watch TV 6 hours a day, every hour 6 minutes exposed to ads (I KNOW, a LOT of places, its MORE)!
That's 36 minutes a DAY...252 minutes a week....in 52 weeks that's 13,140 minutes.....219 hours.....over 9 days in a YEAR dedicated to watching ads...

Long time ago, I only got 2 weeks paid vacation in a year (10 days). Be damned if I'm going to spend MY time watching ads...

I don’t mind ads but at just $5 a month cheaper, it just feels like I need a little more of a discount to be interested.
