Default Atmos speaker install question

I have 4 ceiling speakers to install and I know the areas to install per the recommended charts available. My issue is that my area as you can see below has a approx 8" ceiling drop due to the I beam. Would it make sense to put the rear 2 speakers on the other side of the ceiling or should I just put them right overhead? I don't know how the speakers would sound if I install them with the little 8" drop in the way. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

If you can, I think mounting them on the I beam would be the best spot. If not there directly overhead would be the way to go.

The speakers are in ceiling speakers so I think just going overhead will have to do.

Looks like the smaller ceiling tiles on the sectional sofa side of the I-beam(HVAC duct) would be best.

That's what I was thinking. Pretty much have to deal with what I have. I can still move the sectional forward a little. Should still sound good though.

If you put the speakers behind the ceiling drop, they'll be more like surround speakers because they are behind you instead of overhead I would try to install all four of the ceiling speakers above your listening area.

So what you’re saying is that you don’t know the correct placement for Atmos height speakers.

I have a related question. If I were to mount these currently front height speakers on the ceiling, which way should the speakers be facing? Should I keep them in the same position, just pointing downwards?

They should be pointing towards the listener. If you to mount them on the ceiling, make sure they're mounted on the stud (not on the drywall) or they will fall right on the top of your head.

If you are doing only 2 overhead speakers then evenly spaced overhead. If you have 4 then evenly space them out so your head will be in the center of the square. Usually spread the speakers out the same distance as the front floor speakers. Try to make the distances from your ears roughly the same.

So I went ahead and installed the 4 atmos in ceiling speakers with the 2 rears overhead because of the beam like you guys suggested. The question would now be if I should put 2 more on the other side of the beam in the first ceiling tiles (5.2.6)? I'm not interested in rear bookshelf speakers down low behind the couch for surround because they would be right in the way when you come down the stairs but was wondering if the in ceiling atmos speakers would be worth it (sound wise). Do you think the rear speaker sound would be muffled because of the beam or should it be OK? I'm fine with the way they are right now but I figured they were a very easy install and the extra work would be no problem.

Go with a 5.1.2 or 7.1.2 and put them overhead. Funky rooms shape and less than optimal for 4 overheads. Focus on your base layer.
