Despite my best efforts to keep track of when each store/distributor charges for a pre-order, I simply can't keep track of who charges immediately and who charges upon order shipment. In the past I would simply ask in the distributor/stores respective thread, however I figured that I'm not alone in my confusion as this information often comes up throughout the year and that this information would make for a useful reference thread. I'm asking for your assistance in helping me identify any/all online stores that one can buy movies from and for your assistance in answering the questions of when each store charges for an order (Immediately or upon Shipment) as well as whether they have a free shipping threshold for orders to make this as comprehensive as possible. I just pre ordered a Criterion set at Barnes & Nobel & was charged immediately for it. Mondo Macabro charges immediately too I believe & so does Vinegar Syndrome. Best Buy charges on shipment.

This is true for Credit Card only. If you pay with Paypal, they charge immediately.

Never had a B&N Preorder that posted a charge on a CC order before being processed for shipment. Preauth/Pending charges aren't the same thing.


B&N Policy Statement
"When a pre-order item is purchased, the credit/debit card on the order will be authorized for the full amount. Depending on the release date of the item, the authorization may drop off before the item ships. Times may vary when hold is removed based on the credit/debit card issuer.

When the inventory becomes available for the item, another authorization occurs for the full amount to begin processing the order. If you see two authorizations, you weren't billed twice; one is the temporary hold and one is the actual charge."

I contacted MVDShop recently about their pre-orders and received a prompt, simple response. Adding that information to what's currently on their website:

-MVD Shop:

Free Shipping Threshold: Orders $75 and above - $7.99 flat rate otherwise, does not ship internationally.
