Default DreamWorks Acquires "Paranormal Activity"

... Why remake it when the original is already in-the-can and, if I'm not mistaken, in English (trailer here)? Sending the original straight to home viewing seems like quite a wasteful decision.

On a side note, "Cloverfield" is seemingly turning the handheld-camera-POV-effect into even more of a gimmick than "The Blair Witch Project" did. Also, I think this looks potentially better than "Cloverfield" but that's just me.

So? Let this one be HD DVD exclusive. Better yet, let it be an exclusivesly shelved permanently.

Maybe they thought that they could REALLY make the movie work by reshooting it? Most stuff shot on consumer grade video cameras don't make a good transition when projected 100" wide. Dreamworks may also want to add better VFX and create a more dynamic surround sound.

For a second, I thought we were talking about Paranormal State, that horrid show on A&E.... just absolutely stupid. I thought it was full of actors but apparently these goth kids think they're actually hunting ghosts...

I think it looks promising (hopefully more promising than what "Cloverfield" ended up overall being, sadly).

The film was shot on an HD camera... so, I wouldn't think it'd look that bad blown up.
