John DiMaggio is still negotiating.

I get the vibe that this was announced early, like someone was going to report on it and their hands were forced, but it’s also possible that Disney announced it while threatening to recast Bender in hopes that DiMaggio will fall in line, or that DiMaggio leaked it to get a big surge of fan support going.

It would seem to be working in DiMaggio’s favor because the negative reaction to a revival without him is dominating discussion of the news.

Didn't this happen the last time they tried to bring this back? It's 2009 all over again

I feel exactly the same way. The Futurama revival is what soured me on revivals. Because I loved the original run of Futurama. LOVED it. Still do. I think it's some of the best television that's ever been done. So obviously I wanted them to bring it back and when they did, it just wasn't anywhere near as good.

So I'm not exactly clamouring for another revival. Add to the equation Disenchantment, which is probably the worst animated sitcom I've ever seen, and I have serious doubts that the same people are capable of ever delivering a quality product ever again

I liked the series of straight to video Futurama films (especiaaly Into the Wild Green Yonder) but was mostly pretty underwhelmed by the new seasons that were on Comedy Central. They were cheap and the animation frequently looked wonky. The writing was also well below expectations.

Hope the Hulu show has a bigger budget and a crack writing staff.

I loved the Comedy Central episodes. Cautiously happy to see Hulu is bringing it back - many revivals are just plain bad.

Didn't Futurama end? Not like got cancelled, but like narrative wise, didn't they wrap up the series?

There were several season finales that would have worked as show finales including the last one in 2013.

Comedy Central did not renew it but gave the showrunners enough of a lead time to craft a proper finale.

This is the fourth resurrection not second:

Came back as direct to video movies.

Comedy Central bought the rights to those movies and broke them up as a season.

Comedy Central then after the success of that “season” revived it. Then a pay dispute with cast could have derailed that.

Now Hulu is bringing it back and another pay dispute is happening.

No the movies and the seasons on Comedy Central are all part of the same revival. The idea was Comedy Central were buying the syndication rights and they were talking about doing new episodes. So what they agreed on was they'd bring it back as direct-to-video movies and, if those did well (which they did), they'd commission all new episodes and the direct-to-video movies could be split up into four episodes each to make up a fifth season.

Wish we'd gotten the original seasons on Blu, but that dream is long gone these days.

Same here. Also, one of the first thoughts I had concerning this revival is that it will almost certainly not get a physical release. I love just popping in a disc when the mood to watch Bender strikes me. Don’t want to sub to Hulu in perpetuity to have that option for the new ones (assuming they’re actually good)
