USA The Last Broadcast (1998) (Limited Edition) - June 21, 2022

101 Films, a UK label, will be releasing the found footage film The Last Broadcast (1998) in the US on June 21st. The release is a Limited Edition with an extensive set of extras.

Quote:
In 1995 a four-man team from the cable-access program Fact or Fiction braved the desolate New Jersey Pine Barrens determined to deliver a live broadcast of legendary monster, the Jersey Devil. Only one came out alive. The lone survivor was sentenced to life in prison, but filmmaker David Leigh is convinced that he's innocent. Could the Jersey Devil still haunt the barrens?

Bissette, and a booklet with expert writing on the film and the found footage genre from the directors of feature documentary "The Found Footage Phenomenon" (2021).

Hmm, kinda weird if they reuse the same packaging since the "23" on the spine doesn't make sense in the US.

Always been curious about this, but seems like a one-time watch.

The found-footage horror movie made a year before Blair Witch (neither was the first, of course). I honestly can't remember if I ever saw this one (too many found-footage movies from that era blurred together in my head!), but I remember reading about the production in Videomaker magazine that year.

Good premise; not-so-good execution.

This movie's making-of story was featured in an interesting Fangoria article. I had such high hopes for the movie. A modern In Search of...The Jersey Devil! Then finally seeing it on DVD, it put me to sleep. I still bought the bluray. And I'm happy to report there is no spine # printed on the US release's spine! Yay!

Shudder.com is streaming a documentary THE FOUND FOOTAGE HORROR
PHENOMENON in which every director of the most popular films in the genre
are interviewed, including Stefan Avalos and Lance Weiler.

Excellent documentary. Worth a look if you're into the genre.

I like this one quite a bit, shortcomings aside. It's a definite relic of the early internet age. I think the no-budget Collingswood Story is a more effective film with a slightly-similar set-up, but I picked this edition up as an upgrade from the old DVD release. Not a fantastic film, but historically speaking, a real curio. 101 Films did a nice job with this release I thought, though it doesn't seem to have much fanfare.

Finally got around to watching this. I thought it was fantastic until the last 5-10 minutes.

Purchased the limited edition. I really wish it had just ended when
[Show spoiler]the achivist was enhancing the photo, and right before they managed to clean the photo up, it just ended with something along the lines of "To this day, they are still attempting to clean the photo up more", or something like that.
