Default French publisher BAC Films goes Blu-ray

good morning,

The French publisher BAC Films turned Blu. Their 1st title will be "Caramel", a comedy on the daily lives of five Lebanese women, which was a surprise hit from last summer:
http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0825236/

The BD will be released on March 13. No specs yet, but I've just had confirmation that it'll be region ABC.

In order to give you some perspective, BAC has quite a sizeable library, including some earlier Miramax titles (think Pulp Fiction, Wild at Heart or Barton Fink).

No other BDs have been announced for the time being.

Cool!

Now waiting on Canal Studio (that would be quite the blow for European HD market ) ...

It appears that they have actually gone Blu-exclusive as they have canceled the planned previously HDDVD release of Caramel. The only one coming out now is:

Although that is a DVD box cover.
Still, I hope that is true, its great to get more Blu exclusive studios/distributors.

I think eventually it'll be news when a week DOESN'T go by without an annoucement for someone going BD-exclusive.

I wish to stress that the Caramel Blu-ray is a gutsy release for them. The film is aimed at a 15-35 yrs female audience and obviously film buffs, which is at the exact opposite of the PS3 core audience that makes most of the BD purchases.

This is great.

I wonder if they will have the sense to add English subtitles to releases moving forward, to capture potential exports of these titles...
