Mine arrived yesterday. There was a nice spot in the deals a while ago as the DVD and Blu prices were mixed up for a while and Amazon (as usual I find) honored the original price. £9.99 delivered. Hoping to watch it this weekend.

I managed to nab it at £9.99 as well and it should arrive tomorrow. The only delivery option available to me was by 12-13th September (priority) even though I have prime. I had to "change" delivery speed to priority (ie no change) and it bumped it to Thursday.

Had my copy delivered yesterday and watched it last night.

Enjoyed the film a lot and it is shot wonderfully - one of those films that you can pause at any given moment and it has a high chance of looking like a painting.

Nice reversible cover art too but other than that it is a barebones release. Well there is a trailer (more like a teaser as it is short), but I'm not counting that. Would have liked to have seen some interviews with the cast and perhaps the director whom I believe can be found on youtube discussing the film. Maybe an audio commentary for those that enjoy them too.

Also would have appreciated full subtitles as well, not just subtitles for the non-English dialogue - I found some of the English language parts hard to understand through the thick accents, maybe that's just me though.

So overall I'm happy with it at 9.99 but do think the film deserved a better treatment in terms of extras. Especially when you consider the RRP is 14.99 which is closer to arrow, criterion, eureka, etc. new releases that come with slips, essay booklets, and tonnes of features.

It's so disappointing to hear that. Why would anyone still do that in 2022? There are many people who could use those subtitles, and there is nothing to be gained by leaving them out.

Also, if they want to be inclusive to Irish viewers, they should include Irish subtitles also.

I'm just after watching and its a fabulous film. Its mostly in Irish so almost all of it is subbed bar a few lines. It recreates the early 80's in rural Ireland perfectly. The only bugbear I found was that a few of the cars had "ZV" license plates for vintage cars that weren't in use back then. Also where on earth did they find a Vauxhall Viva with so little rust on it?

Video and audio quality was excellent too. Recommended

The film just passed €1 million at the box office. If any film deserves to break records it's this one.

Quote:
AN CAILÍN CIÚIN has made history in becoming the first Irish-language feature film to be shortlisted for an Oscar.

It’s been shortlisted by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for this year’s Best International Feature Film category.

It’s the first time an Irish-language film has been shortlisted in this category and only the second Irish film ever to reach the category’s shortlist stage, after VIVA in 2016.

An Cailín Ciúin is one of 15 films to be shortlisted from the 92 countries who submitted to his category.

The film has grossed more then €1 million at the Ireland-UK box office, making it the highest grossing Irish-language film of all time.

Based on a book by Irish author Claire Keegan entitled ‘Foster’, An Cailín Ciúin is described as an intricate coming-of-age drama that delves into the meaning of family through the eyes of a neglected young girl.

Set in rural Ireland in 1981, the film follows Cáit as she is sent from her overcrowded, dysfunctional household to live with distant relatives for the summer.

The film stars Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley, and Andrew Bannett and is directed by Colm Bairéad, who also wrote the screenplay.

It was produced by Inscéal, in partnership with Screen Ireland, TG4, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Speaking on the film’s shortlist selection, the film’s director Colm Bairéad and producer, Cleona Ní Chrualaoi from Inscéal, said they are “absolutely thrilled” to be shortlisted, adding that they are “particularly proud to be the first Irish-language film to have achieved this”.

The pair labelled is an “historic moment for Irish-language cinema” and thanked Screen Ireland, TG4, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland for their assistance.

They also thanked the Irish Film and Television Academy for its “invaluable support and commitment and to the audiences who came in such record numbers to see our film so far”.

I really hope that The Quite Girl can make its way to the final five of the Oscar nominees for Best Foreign Language Film.

Such a beautiful moving film that has stuck with me months after blind-buying the Blu Ray.

Looking at the shortlist I think it's got a decent chance of getting through. I mean, Decision to Leave, Bardo and All Quiet... are pretty much shoe-ins but I'm not sure about the others.

As far as I know, there's still no US release date for this (theatrically or on demand). Tempted to import this release just so I can watch it.

Either way, this thing is going to have to wait for my 2023 "Top 25" list.

There was a limited theatrical release a couple of weeks ago and there's a bigger release coming in February.

I see.

I know there were two screenings of it during the Denver Film Festival here in November; but both screenings sold out and I wasn't able to get to it then.

I hope it gets a bigger UK release in February if it does well with awards!
