Default Cyberpunk 2077 sequel - Project Orion

Quote:
Cyberpunk 2077 creator CD Projekt is working on a sequel to the Cyberpunk game that's currently being referred to as "Project Orion." This new Cyberpunk project came as a surprise announcement from a CD Projekt investors event where just enough details were shared to confirm the existence of the project and the fact that this is indeed a sequel to the first time. It's set to be developed by CD Projekt Red, the creators confirmed.

I still need to play the first game, so i don't know where they can go in terms of story for a sequel, but what i do know, is that there was a lot of criticism towards the story feeling very narrow, choices not feeling like they had a real impact and that there wasn't enough verticality for players to explore in the city. That's kind of despite all those developer focus videos where they really did hype it up.

I also remember Cyberpunk Online being mooted as a release down the road and not heard a peep since. So that's going to be interesting.

So yeah, if a sequel can address the criticisms against the first game, and if possible, offer a third person mode, that would be great too.

I'll get excited when it comes out in 2035.

Joke aside, I really liked 2077, despite my first playthrough being on a base ps4 with plenty of glitches and crashes. Plays great on a PS5, glad they were able to fix it.

Biggest letdown in gaming history.

I’m good, learned my lesson & wouldn’t trust CDPR even if you paid me.

I hear your concern.
Once the game was finally pieced together on PS5, it was just okay IMO. The enemies are literally bullet sponges, taking tens of hits at a time with multiple enemies attacking at once. Not a lot of fun IMO. I could see if they were bosses, but they're standard enemies. I need to power the character up through more missions.
The technical glitches, crashes and pop in traffic was never solved either last time I checked. Lots of issues with the PS5 version. I got a refund but also got to keep the game, so I at least appreciate that from CDPR.

The first person view is okay, but hopefully they make 3rd person for the potential sequel.

The amazing thing is, there is a considerable following of gamers who love Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. They had a much less tarnished experience overall.

Definitely down for this. Feel bad for anyone who played on a base PS4 but I played on PS5 and it was fine. Took me a while to get into it but in the end it was a great experience. I wonder if the sequel will have V though.

Obviously, CD Projekt Red isn't talking about the sequel's release date or even directly hinting at it, but it's indirectly hinted at it. The Polish games maker recently confirmed it's starting pre-production on the sequel after the Phantom Liberty expansion releases in 2023. If this sounds familiar, it's because pre-production of Cyberpunk 2077 began after The Witcher 3 expansion Blood and Wine was released in 2016. Four years later, Cyberpunk 2077 was released. Doing some quick math, this new timeline would suggest Cyberpunk 2077's sequel would be out in 2027.

Yes, but hopefully this time it won't be too rushed. I'm looking forward to see where they go next.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty just released last month, but CD Projekt is already looking to the future of the franchise. A sequel to the game, codenamed Project Orion, was announced several months ago, but little else was revealed. CD Projekt chief creative officer Adam Badowski offered some new details on the how the Cyberpunk sequel is progressing during a recent investor presentation (via Video Games Chronicle). While the company seems to have some big plans in place, it sounds like Project Orion won't be releasing for quite some time, as it's currently in the concept stage.

"This project is on a conceptual design level right now, and it's going to be designed by a team of veterans who were responsible for fine-tuning Cyberpunk 2077 and designing Phantom Liberty," said Badowski. "We're going to work out of North America, Vancouver and Boston locations, team leadership are already there.

Is it only me or is anyone else disappointed they're all moving to the US? It's a Polish company after all with sensibilities that brought Witcher 3. I'm sure they outsourced work, but for me, they should keep their development in Poland. Like Remedy are a Finish company who work out of Finland, yunno?

Hoping for the best for the future of CDPR. The release of CP77 was a shit show in 2020. I even bought a t-shirt.

I think it's weird to start off and become such a major Polish icon in the gaming world to just up yourself post success and then basically turn American but perhaps that's the problem with becoming s publicly traded company. The investors probably forced them to consider that a move to NA would somehow attract more devs and then grow their appeal further. Obviously share prices going up too.

Personally i think they should stay head quartered in Poland, with their main studio and the rest of the locations should have been new studios under sub group names to work on multiple projects. Maybe that is how it would be and i'm not seeing it like that cause og the way i interpreted your post.

Either way, the content is the most important thing and they know how badly Cyberpunk 2077's launch messed their reputation up. Its only starting to recover a bit now. Their tech changes on PC for the game also screamed a little smoke and mirrors at times to deflect away considering that the tech showcases require quite high end PCs.

I actually hope the sequel doesn't launch until PS6 hardware comes along.

From what I played of Cyberpunk, the story was actually very interesting and felt more impactful than Starfield, which I recently completed in September 2023, which was mostly a fetch quest main campaign story; fetch the pieces repetitiously to progress the story. Cyberpunk felt like it had more variety and depth to it IMO. I still have to complete the game, but remember thinking the story was clever and different.

As far as any news of CDPR going to the USA, probably financial reasons, I don't know, but they should have more money than ever now despite the disaster launch of Cyberpunk on PS4, XB1.

I don't have any faith in them at this point, so they'll have to offer some amazing new features to get my attention if they make a Cyberpunk sequel. 3rd person view as an option in addition to FPS view would be a must for starters.

And even after that, I'd wait a long while till it went on sale, never to buy another CDPR game at launch. I did get a full refund from them, and they let me keep the game despite saying they'll let me know when I have to return it in the future, which they never bothered pursuing.

FPS fans, I can understand why they enjoy Cyberpunk, since that is the main focus of the game's viewpoint, plus all of the cybernetics.

I personally wish they worked on an update to give Cyberpunk 2077 a 3rd person view. They probably would have had to overhaul all the animations though and doubt they want to invest the time to do so, but other than that. With it already being first person, a VR mode shouldn't be a too big challenge for them to offer and actually be a big selling point.

CD Projekt Red is hard at work on “Project Orion,” a direct sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. At this time, details about the new game are pretty slim, but some new information was revealed at the Digital Dragons Conference by Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith. In an interview with the TVGry channel, Pondsmith revealed that his role is a little smaller this time around when compared to the previous game. However, he still does have some involvement, continuing to weigh in on the overall creation of this world. Most notably, Pondsmith revealed that the new game has a new location, which will apparently take some cues from Chicago.

There’s another city we visit. And Night City is still there. But I remember looking at it and going ‘yeah, I understand the feel that you’re going for with this, and this really does work. And it doesn’t really feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like… Chicago gone wrong. And I said yeah, I can see this working,” Pondsmith told the outlet.

Good points.
If they added a 3rd person view, I might consider the game at a discount. I ended up getting the first game free after their refund policy as they never asked for me to send the game back. The disc version for PS4 on a PS4 is unreal of how big of a downgrade it was.
