And original mono soundtrack, restore the bits and pieces that haven't been seen since VHS, and include the original TV movie for good measure.

Hope it comes true this time lol.

But yeah, absolutely day 1. Duel is one of Spielberg's best films and one of my favourites of his.

July is a good month for it’s release.

We can only hope for multiple versions / aspect ratios and audio options but I fear I’ll be holding onto my LaserDisc forever (for 1.33:1 and Mono audio - yet it is the longer cut)

This should look spectacular in 4K. Desert and daylight always translate well in higher formats.

I hope it's in widescreen as the BD. I remember it looked good to me. This will more than likely have a new DTS: X track.

It's a yes from me, provided that it's in 1.33:1.

Ok. Just look here: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...=45495&i=0&l=0

Looks more cinematic to me. It was also in widescreen in the cinema.

I don't care what it was in the cinema. It's 100% a TV movie. Only after it became a big hit did they decide to show it in theaters. It wasn't composed for widescreen. 1.33:1 or bust (of course, including the widescreen version for those who prefer it won't hurt).

I'm pretty sure it was composed using the "shoot and protect" method in case Universal wanted to release it theatrically overseas (which, of course, they ended up doing). This was a fairly common practice for TV movies in that time. I think it would be nice to have both aspect ratios as an option, but if it turns out only to be the 1.85:1, I'll happily buy it and not consider the release to be a failure by any stretch.

This is the same case as the IMAX aspect ratio puritans. They see the scope version as a ''crop'' even though IMAX is almost always just select scenes and the scope is as director approved as IMAX, and is also the one most likely widened and seen by everybody in the world.

As much as I'd love both ratios so everyone could get what they want and everyone would shut up, it's not gonna happen, and you're gonna get 1:85. But please stop talking about ''it's a crop, it's not the original aspect ratio''.. just because it was premiered in TV does not mean it isn't fit for theatrical aspect ratio. The TV and film versions are different, had new scenes, too, etc.. so it was entirely re-formatted better to 1.85.

That's why it would be nice to have the two cuts in their respective ratios. Universal should be aware that there's a decent demand for both.

You should care, because it was actually composed for widescreen then safe protected for 1.33 for TV. The 1.33 is opened up.

But the disc version isn’t the TV cut anyway, it’s the theatrical cut, which was widescreen and not 1.33. So it’s doubly accurate.

Widescreen should be included but shouldn't be the only option. The differences are minor anyway. A little less on the sides for for 1.33, a little less on the top and bottom for wide. I'm more worried about a future 4K of THX-1138 not including the original un-CGI'd version.

Waiting for confirmation that the black and white version will be included because that’s how I seen it on the TV way back when

Crayola TVs were for rich folks.

:lol

Imagine thinking a 1971 TV movie was composed for widescreen

Do you have any idea how television sets were in 1971??

Here
