Default PlayStation 6 - Official Thread - Unofficial Information

Reports are coming out based off an internal Sony document which is starting PS5 Pro will release in 2024 and PS6 is scheduled for release sometime in 2028. This would be an 8 year gap between PS5 and PS6.

This internal document release is due to UK law as part of the MS Activision deal.

Full 22 Page Doument: https://assets.publishing.service.go...ertainment.pdf

Quote:
The full document is rather lengthy at around 22 pages, but a paragraph at the start of Page 8 notes that Sony claims Microsoft had “offered to continue making Activision’s games available on PlayStation only until 2027.” Further on, it continues:

By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [redacted]), it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.
Quote:
When is the PS6 release date?
New reports suggest that the PS6 release date will be during 2028.

In an article that initially claimed that the PS5 Pro has entered production, Insider-Gaming‘s Tom Henderson went on to explain that he “understands that the next generation of the PlayStation, the PS6, is unlikely to release until at least 2028.”

This lines up with a Sony document which revealed that the PS6 release date is scheduled to launch sometime after 2027.

If the reported timeframe proves accurate, gamers can expect to see a PS5 Pro launch in late 2024, followed by the PS6 releasing in 2028.

As for what games will be launching on the next-gen PS6, it seems that The Last of Us Part 3 has “PlayStation 6 in mind,” so don’t expect to see Ellie’s adventure continued anytime soon.

This doesn’t need beat into the ground but it’s way too early for “Pro” systems. They have yet to fully transition from last gen and haven't even scratched what these current ones can do when optimized well.

I suspect well see what the systems can do with Spiderman 2 and FFXVI. But don't shoot the messenger here lol, its speculation at this point based off an internal document declassified for a UK lawsuit. But it does line up with the Ps5 Pro rumors and diskless PS5 expected to Debut this year for release in 2024/2025

Slim yeah, this year.

Pro, doubtful unless 8K became a thang & I wasn’t aware.

2028 for PS6. Sounds about right on the money.

To the extent I'm using PS5 .... I'll check back in when PS12 Slim is available.

My PS4 worked a lot better than my PS5 does. I think it's downhill from here. On second thought I don't want the PS12 after all.

I was not [planning on pre-ordering a PS5 and then Covid hit and I had time to catch up on PS4 games and decided to get a PS5 because I was playing again.

I used to be a big Sony fan, but my PS5 has gotten so little use it's sad. God of War Ragnarok, Miles Morales and Horizon, that's about it. And Sony's trend to put their big games on PC makes me think I probably will not get a PS6.

Both Microsoft and Sony as doing this odd game of trying to accomodate last gen, this gen, while also putting their stuff on other platforms, making the main draw of consoles kind of obsolete (for someone like me).

I'm probably going to go PC/Nintendo Switch 2 if this Sony thing holds true. If I didn't get my PS5 for literally -25 bucks (massive screw up by retailer), I'd be pretty bummed.

I know people say we don't need a Pro model, but i am still on the side that thinks 8K isn't going to be mainstream for PS6. In fact, PS5 is actually advertised as 8K capable and there's like 1 game or something that does it. The future for gaming lies more towards 4K/60fps as a target with better real time graphics and then continuing with better graphics but trying to upgrade to 120hz.

I know that Samsung has also started doing 144hz capable TVs, so wouldn't be surprised if eventually even that higher refresh rate became a thing but i would say a better frame rate will add more to the experience than going to 8K.

if 8k is "mainstream" for PS6 then PS5 pro is not needed for that. But for me it is more them that we are deep in Ps5 territory and IMHO its capabilities are not what are keeping games at the specs/look they have. yes 4k was the reason PS4 needed a pro but resolution is not the only thing and I believe for anything else game developers want to add to 5 games the PS5 as is will most likely be strong enough.

LMFAO DO you have ANY idea what it would take to make 8K the standard for Ps6.

Video cards out right now are not even 8K ready. You would be looking at todays tech for 4k 60 FPS in a PS6 with RTX and VR.

8K is a pipe dream.

I'm pretty sure I've posted it many times before but i don't think 8K is necessary or needed for PS6. 4K/60fps with better Ray Tracing is the most likely thing we'll get. 8K is going to be niche but they will have some more horsepower to pull it off on very select games that aren't hardware intensive. I'm well aware that even PCs with RTX 4090 cards struggle with 8K, but eventually at some point when the hardware allows, for VR that resolution and high framerates will be significantly more impactful to the experience. I've been around long enough to know the top end cards of today, by 2028 might actually be considered lower than mid range, so i'm hoping we could even get something a little more powerful by 2028 if that's when the PS6 launches.

8k would be a complete waste of hardware resources. Even now, I'm not sure if true 4K isn't a waste of hardware resources. On my TV, I honestly have a very hard time distinguishing between 1440p/1800p upscaled and true 4K. I much prefer a game run at 1440p with higher frames and ray tracing than one that runs at true 4K at 30fps. Even on my Switch, games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Metroid Prime Remastered running at 1080p look gorgeous to me. I'm at the point now where resolution is the least of concerns with gaming. 8K would only exacerbate the issue even further. If PS6 can do 4K at 60fps with better ray tracing, more power to it. But I'm not hung up on the resolution anymore. I want better performance, better AI, more interactive environments, denser worlds, etc. That's what I'll be looking for in PS6.

Back in the days of Atari 2600 with 192 to 240 or so lines per screen, if someone said 4K resolution at 3840 × 2160 being possible, it would seem impossible at that time in the late 1970s of very low-res gaming.

At this early stage of gaming technology (less than 100 years of gaming in the history of mankind), reaching for each increment of resolution takes tremendous resources from the hardware as seen with PS5 often needing to compromise, but in the future, technology will advance beyond it so that resolution is not even a concern anymore as you can imagine. Images will be ultra clear far beyond 8K, with zero visible pixels. How long it takes to get there, maybe 30 to 50 years?

Consistent framerates and HDR are much more important to me than resolution.

I think generally framerates being stable are more desirable for games, but 4K resolution imo definitely has a place. It helps reduce a lot of aliasing artifacts and does improve the image having seen the DF comparisons but 4K/60fps with better resolution Ray Tracing is a much more achievable goal for PS6 imo with like i mentioned, select 8K titles.

Also, consider the fact of how PS4 Pro supersampled the image on 1080p from the 4K version and a side by side between base PS4 to PS4 Pro on some titles is probably why your 1440p/1080p also looks better.

I said it where i feel 4K/120hz with full fledged Ray Tracing is a much better goal of flat screen gaming, with maybe even a bump to 144hz. 8K for the hardware requirements would be ridiculous in the majority of titles for the return.

I have been shouting this from the rooftops like a crazy person for years. Let's be done with this useless resolution arms race PLEASE. Now that I've seen what 1440p/1800p games and true 4K movie discs look like on my 85" QLED in the last month or so since I got it the thought of needing anything beyond 4K for in-home consumption is absolutely laughable to me.

If the standard for mainstream displays never goes beyond 4K/120hz I'll be perfectly fine with that. At this point I just want better pixels, not more of them.
