Thanks. Monster/Creature/Animal horror could work for Jaws style films about fish or giant sharks.

Ha, that's true. Thanks. Although I was hoping to see which specific genres get the most votes over time.

Of course I kid, I kid...

However, for a more serious response:

I couldn't help but create my own categories instead (sorry about that). Please feel free to reinterpret or recategorize them anyway you see fit.

My absolute favorites are the following:
  1. Kaiju & Tokusatsu
    [Show spoiler](Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, etc....)
  2. Italian
[Show spoiler](Cannibals, Zombies, Gialli, anything really...)
  3. 1950’s
[Show spoiler](any kind of Horror, Sci-Fi, or Fantasy film released sometime between 1950 - 1959)
  4. Tiny Terrors
[Show spoiler](things like Gremlins, Critters, Ghoulies, Killer Dolls/Puppets, etc....)
  5. Killer Animals
[Show spoiler](Sharks, Crocodiles, Snakes, Spiders, Bees, etc....)
  6. Slasher
  7. Aquatic & Tropical
[Show spoiler](anything relating to oceans, lakes, rivers, swamps, islands, jungles, etc....)
  8. Halloween & October
[Show spoiler](anything relating to the holiday and season plus pumpkins and scarecrows...)
  9. Aliens & Cryptids
[Show spoiler](“realistic” Grey Aliens, Bigfoot, Yeti, Loch Ness Monster, etc....)
  10. Classic “Transylvanian” Monsters
[Show spoiler](Frankenstein’s Monsters, Vampires, Werewolves, Mummies, etc....)
  11. American International Pictures & Roger Corman Productions
[Show spoiler](basically all films made by AIP or associated with Roger Corman)
  12. Empire Pictures Productions
[Show spoiler](basically all films made by this company)
  13. Monsters & Creatures
[Show spoiler](pretty much anything else that isn't covered by the categories listed above)
But again, I'm not very picky when it comes to horror films (at least the ones released before 2008. Anything released after 2007 barely even intrests me "sad to say..." ).

Any horror that works for it and doesn't resort to jump scares or sick gore/torture. Dread and uneasiness is underrated.

Whatever. She's been worm food for years.

I'm not sure if Threads fits neatly into any one category. I suppose a story about life after a nuclear holocaust might be considered Survival Horror or Post-Apocalypse Horror. But I can see some people saying the latter is just a subcategory of the former. I think Threads best fits under Not-Fun-to-Watch Horror because it's legitimately horrific in ways that aren't enjoyable. That's a pretty impressive feat considering it's a made-for-TV movie from the BBC.

I think the same can be said for Come and See. When you watch something like this you realize most war movies are actually adventure films or action movies that have little to do with what it's like to be in actual large-scale combat. I remember Come and See being called the "most horrifying movie that's not a horror film" or something along those lines. But I'd argue that it *is* a horror movie since it makes you understand that war is truly hell and shows a teen losing both his innocence and his mind. Threads was still a harder one to sit through for me but Come and See isn't far behind.

Psychological horror. I’m too old to be scared by gore and jump scares.

Yes.

Joke aside, if I have to pick one, it has to be phycological horror. To really live rent free in my mind for the rest of my days, you have to unsettle it.

I'm here just to say that EVIL DEAD II is not a comedy or a horror-comedy, but a horror movie with a bit of dark humour into it.

That's it.

I like a good range of horror, and I will watch most anything dealing with the supernatural, the gothic, monsters, killer animals, zombies, werewolves, vampires, aliens, kaiju, and whatever. I'm pretty lukewarm towards slashers, torture movies, and serial killer movies--some intrigue me though. I probably like the found footage genre the least (although "jump scare" as a genre is something I would find annoying). Tried to like the Italian gaillo movies, but they just don't do it for me. Starting appreciating folk horror more these days, but I neglected to vote on it.

These days, I find myself digging cosmic horror the most. More than just aliens and monsters and such, it's the fear of huge, god-like Eldrich horrors so vast and incomprehensible that they drive people insane just knowing about them (in a classic Lovecraftian sense anyway). Something about it hits me harder and leaves me more unsettled than usual, probably because of the nihilism inherent to the concept. Favorites of mine under this umbrella would be The Thing (well, heck, all of JC's Apocalypse Trilogy for that matter), The Mist, Mandy, and Annihilation.
