TAKING ON THE DRUG LORDS IS IMPOSSIBLE. TAKING ON A COUNTRY IS INSANE. When prisoner of war Robert McBain (Academy Award winner Christopher Walken, The Deer Hunter) is rescued in the jungles of North Vietnam by a group of Rangers, he expresses his thanks and gratitude. The leader of the Rangers, Santos (Chick Vennera), takes out a $100 bill, tears it in two, gives half to McBain and says, "If the other half of this bill ever finds you, you can pay me back." Eighteen years later, Santos is killed in Colombia while leading a fight against drug lords and corrupt politicians. His sister, Christina (Maria Conchita Alonso, Predator 2, The Running Man) goes to New York with the other half of the bill and seeks out McBain to enlist his help in overthrowing the Colombian regime. With the surviving ex-Rangers from his Vietnam rescue, including Michael Ironside (Total Recall, Top Gun) and Steve James (The Exterminator, The Soldier), McBain's team travels to Colombia to break the power of the drug lords and avenge Santos' death. The only scene of the movie that depicts "an impossible occurrence" (LOL) is when McBain - from the cockpit of his small plane - shots a JET with his handgun, and the pilot of the JET was killed. Magic bullet trespassing two cockpits, without damaging McBain's one.

"Take, for example, the scene when McBain and his crew are buzzing down to Columbia in a twin-engine prop plane and are suddenly joined by a Columbian fighter jet! After the old “Sorry, our radio's busted” trick, McBain, in the co-pilot’s seat, pulls a gun, shoots it past his pilot’s head, through the window without breaking it, across to the fighter jet, through that cowling without breaking it, and into the pilot’s head! Ha ha, talk about a magic bullet!"

Well, it was an ultra-cool scene anyway.

I'll pick this up. I love Walken from that era and want to support little films like this getting released (this one's been a long time coming).

I rented it only once on VHS over 30 years ago, and all I remember is Walken being a POW in the beginning, and then later with some Guerillas in Latin America. I remember the late Victor Argo as a dictator, I think. Maria Conchita Alonso and Walken and others running around the jungle and what-not. I don't remember much else, so it'll be largely like seeing it for the first time, again, pretty much.

I'm sure it's pure cheese, but probably enjoyable enough as a Sunday afternoon time waster.

EDIT: I did NOT remember Michael Ironside and Steve James being in it. It's more appealing by the minute, LOL.

If you like Cannon action movies from the 80s, it’s at least worth a look, since it’s very much in that style.

I agree.

The defenestration scene in a drug dealer's den outshines the one in Invasion USA. Glickenhaus put a the needed money in action scenes.

But perhaps he should have put more money in the costumes. The dictator uniform is visibly cheap. Maria Conchita Alonso is doing guerilla stuff wearing converses and Walken also seems to wear his personal clothes.

Sometimes. Like their release of Black Circle (cool movie btw) isn't even on Amazon yet and it shipped last week if you ordered from Synapse.

I imported the German Blu-ray of this last year.

I liked the film when I first saw it a number of years ago. Walken has that great speech about Woodstock and there's some quite unique action sequences.

It's basically top-tier Glickenhaus on every level.

Synapse is a North American company - they don't lock to Region B.

I've had the ancient Arrow DVD for ages but I remember nothing about the film. For twenty bucks I'll upgrade but this is FAR from a priority for me. I hope it's a good film. Imagine waiting a decade for a mediocre by-the-numbers action flick if that's the case.
