Collector's Edition (4K UHD + Blu-Ray + Rigid Case + Slipcase + Book + Artcards + Poster)
Umbrella Webstore Exclusive

Release Date: October 2023

Quote:
Notorious for the demands it placed on its stars, Adjani''s searing performance earned her the Best Actress award at Cannes in 1981. Savagely cut for the US market by bewildered distributors, and banned in the UK for almost two decades, it remains every bit as powerful and shocking today as it was on release. Umbrella Entertainment proudly presents this director approved version of POSSESSION in stunning 4K UHD.

Set in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, infused with Cold War-era paranoia and tension, POSSESSION is a film that defies classification. One of the most tortured portraits of a disintegrating marriage ever presented on screen, visionary director ANDRZEJ ZULAWSKI masterfully blends horror and thriller conventions into an utterly unique cinema experience—drawing on his own traumatic divorce and creative blacklisting in his native Poland.

Spy Mark (SAM NEILL) returns to West Berlin after a mission to find that his wife Anna (ISABELLE ADJANI) wants a divorce. She is having an affair, but insists that isn't the reason. When Mark hires a private detective to get to the truth, an even more disturbing secret is uncovered—Anna keeps a separate apartment housing an otherworldly, tentacled creature with a ravenous sexual appetite (created by special effects legend CARLO RAMBALDI of ALIEN fame). So continues the descent into a nightmarish maze of jealousy, carnality devoid of satisfaction, insanity, terror and murder—where identity and reality are almost impossible to distinguish.

Is that based on logical/safe assumption RE current licensing etc, or just wishful thinking? (genuine question, as I'm hovering over the pre-order button...)

Webstore exclusive ordered so fast, my screen has scorch marks on it. I wonder how limited “limited” means.

Several of their LEs have sold out in the past, but not all of them.

I placed an order too. I figure if I wait, even if it's just a day or two, it will be gone. Just when I start paying down my credit card, I'm adding to it again.

Just the latter as Second Sight previously released it on Blu-ray. Not sure what the current rights situation is in the UK.

I'm pretty sure TF1 has it Europe-wide but they've been licensing it out. Second Sight had it in the UK last. If rights lapsed they'll probly renew again if given the chance. Mondo Vision's been working on their own restoration in the shadows last I heard which is probly what's been taking so long. I reckon we might get a simultaneous US/UK release from MV and SS whenever it's done.

I will blindly buy every release of this movie. Doesn’t matter if this has that bad French 4K restoration. It could have a blank disc for all I care.

It’s hard to resist this. It’s such an amazing film. I’m gonna hold out for a US release or Second Sight if they do it. I’ll always be keeping my Mondo Vision release however since that packaging is stunning and it comes with the CD.

It really is hard to resist it. I’ve been pondering it for the last few hours. I can’t quite pull the trigger though because I, too, prefer the way the Mondo Vision Zulawski-supervised and approved 2K scan looks. I can’t help but feel like this is what we’re going to get everywhere though and that’s just a real shame unless nobody has access to it besides MV.

Not sure about Umbrella, but I know the le chat qui fume release doesn't have HDR, either.

I don't see any mention of HDR for The Last Wave 4K either

Also worth noting the Umbrella blu-ray for Possession looks a lot like le chat qui fume's release, with cooler flesh tones, almost a more monochromatic presentation.

The Mondo release is the the warmest, while the Second Sight appears to be somewhere in the middle.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c_list.php?c=1332

I have no idea what the "proper" presentation is, and I don't want to get into those weeds, just throwing this out there.
