Quote:
The Worms Have Turned!

Six years after Tremors first tunnelled its way into audiences’ affections, the original creative team returned for an equally edge-of-your-seat sequel that would pave the way for a long-running franchise by adding some new twists to everyone’s favorite slimy subterranean slitherers!

Earl Bassett (Fred Ward)’s celebrity after defeating the Graboid attack against the town of Perfection has proved short-lived, until he’s recruited by a Mexican oil company whose workers have found more than they bargained for under the soil. With the help of a scientist (Helen Shaver) and a new sidekick (Christopher Gartin) - not to mention the return of his gun-toting survivalist pal Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) - Earl is about to learn the Graboids have evolved and are deadlier than ever!

Reprising the same mix of nail-biting horror and rib-tickling humor that made the original film so beloved, Tremors 2: Aftershocks is back in a brand new 4K restoration that makes this creature feature pop like never before!

It was supposed to be theatrical! Bacon and Reba dropped out and Universal moved it to the home video division. Budget severely slashed. Everyone else involved stayed with paycuts just to get it made, and SS Wilson stepped in to direct for free. They really pulled thru doing it for the art on this one and it shows. I feel like we'd never see something like this happen these days.

It really had no business being as good as it turned out to be. It's a testament to the work of everyone involved that losing Kevin Bacon and it's budget didn't somehow tank the whole thing. IMHO, It's always felt like a very organic and quality follow-up to Tremors.

FVCK. YES. This and the first film are the most legitimately excited I think I've ever been for 4K releases, given the low-rent reputation of the series and the crappy video transfer of the first and the dated transfer of the second.

As far as I'm concerned, Tremors 2 is the best straight to video sequel ever made, much less concerning straight to video horror movies. I watched the first few films with my uncle, who had only ever seen the first. After the second finished, he was shocked when I told him it was DTV and not theatrical. Apparently, S.S. Wilson and co. lobbied Universal for a theatrical release when they saw how good the film turned out but where declined. Just imagine, if they'd actually put it out with a proper release, the series might have come back in a big way. Still, 3 and 4 are also fun and I quite love the series, it's just fun to ponder the what-ifs.

Also, I distinctly remember when the Tremors 4K was announced in 2020, you were saying that you always double feature the first two. As I recall, we were some of the only ones clamoring for a release of the second film as well, even if it was just a Blu remaster. I remember filling out one of Arrow's 2020 surveys and where they asked what your favorite release from them was that year and some other stuff. The final question was "Which upcoming release are you most excited for?" I cheekily replied with Tremors 2 . I also filled out a suggestion form for the film, as well as the first film back in 2019 or early 2020. So while I have no illusions about being the only one who asked for these, it's nice to get something you ask for.

Ah yes, I remember that . Now the dream has become reality. Good job, team.

Just think, the next time we do the double feature, the picture quality will be beautifully consistent movie to movie and we won't have that jarring transition from Arrow's glorious HDR presentation of Tremors to Universal's manky, old master of Aftershocks

Tremors 2 had a 4 million budget and it was pretty damn good. Imagine if it had a 10 million budget which is damn low. Give it even more production value and would probably easily make that money back in theaters. Universal definitely missed an opportunity to not make Tremors a theatrical franchise

The budget cuts unfortunately showed with the CGI, but the practical effects shots look fantastic still

To me it's the only sequel that was worthy enough to have been released theatrically but wasn't

Was intended for theatrical release, even when two of it's original stars dropped out. It did receive such in a few countries like Japan and some European continent.

This is awesome news! I did not see this coming and talk about icing on the cake with a LE box. Such a solid sequel and Burt Gummer at his best.
