I didn't quite know what to think about the cartoon after ep 1 but this tale grew in its telling. I wouldn´t call it "accurate" when compared to Japanese costume dramas and anime/manga but legit research went into this. The clothes are on point to a far higher degree than they should be for example. I would watch more seasons and you would need to watch films from the 50s to 80s or read a manga to get as much period-accurate nudity and casual sex as here. A far cry from how conservative such live action works and anime became in Japan.

I am really having a good time in watching this.
Currently seen until episode 5 (which is the first one that partially didn't convince me, but to be sure I need to figure out the rest).

Absolutely cracking series. Don't be put off if you have never had any interest in the genre, I hadn't, and just enjoy it for what it is. Action, Adventure, Animated Dismemberment, and "Peaches".

The action is excellent, the story is extremely generic. As a fan of Japanese cinema it was also a bit confusing because it doesn't seem to understand how Japanese society works (as in the relationship between Emperor/Shogun/Daimyo/Samurai). I didn't realise Akemi's status until the last two episodes for instance. Overall it's very much an american show with an american approach that really draws as much, if not more influence from Chinese action films than Japanese.

This was great. Loved the way it mixed in real Japanese history and culture. Bring on S2 in a new setting.
And agree with other, it very much a mix of a lot things. It almost feels like an animated version of Kill Bill at times.

Enjoyed it, but most of the sex/nudity felt like it was there just for shock value.

This has become one of my favorite series. Bring on season 2.

The Kill Bill/Mulan vibe worked for me in so may ways.

Hearing so many good things about this, defiantly 3rd or 4th on my watch list after I finish watching Twisted Metal, Zorro and Brothers Sun.

Watched the first season over the weekend. I never heard of this anime until a co-worker recommended it a week ago.

Just finished watching this. Pure excellence, a setting that there's simply not enough off in Western media, and a story that quite frankly I couldn't guess where it was going. It goes against expectations in nearly every pivotal scene and takes a much more realistic route in every situation

I love that this wasn't some typical "Girl Boss" series and the heroin actually has flaws and doesn't dominate every encounter to the point
[Show spoiler]she very nearly dies several times.

I really hope it has at least 2 more seasons to finish the story and see where this leads. Warning, this has a ton of nudity and is pretty violent. Not one for the kids.

This year's Emmy Nominations are jam-packed with some major players in the world of animation. The current nominees include The Simpsons, X-Men '97, Scavengers Reign, Bob's Burgers, and Blue Eye Samurai. When it comes to which property will take home the gold, it's a tough call considering all the series were able to leave their marks on the medium during their respective runs. To help celebrate the nomination for the series that introduced animation fans to Mizu, one major animator on Blue Eye Samurai recently took the chance to create new hilarious art in hopes that the series will win the Emmy Award.

Pat Keegan is an animator that has worked on some major properties during his career. So far, this includes series such as Rick And Morty, Big Mouth, Bordertown, and Paradise PD. With Blue Eye Samurai confirmed for a second season, Keegan also confirmed that he will be a part of the project as a story artist.

I just started to watched the first ten minutes of the very first episode and damn it's good. Can't wait to finish off the whole season. Hopefully this gets a physical release.

I've wanted to see this but never made time for a show in a while.

1st episode was damn good. I've seen tales like that. In English and Japanese media. So I wasn't surprised so much by the set up and point of the premise.

The violence while wild isn't w/o its point. The nudity is also wonderfully surprising in that it treats it respectfully in whatever tonal point it needs to make. It's got a point. It all does.

This is a very wonderful blend of a Western/Japanese production. I'll have to look up its production history.

The way it ended on the 1 episode was very well done. I could see that it was going somewhere I've seen but still surprised how well it does it w/o being something you roll your eyes at. Seen things revealed like that many times in media but... Just the way it handles it wavering tones is really well done. English language media wouldn't handle it that as well as it did.

Onward to episode 2 here in a bit.

I stopped at Episode 5 yesterday. THAT one was pretty damn good. I think it was the best one of the 8. Just really enjoyed the formatting in that one a lot.

Finished it up today too. It's a damn fine show. Not sure if I like where it went for the next season but it would freshen up the generalization of such a tale sometimes brings.

I thought it was great throughout but episode 5 was so good that it's sad that what followed didn't top it for me. It's not saying that 6-8 were bad. They were really good. It's just that 5 hit my intrigue and engagement more.
