Default 3 Ninjas 4 Film Collection - January 3, 2024 - Via Vision

Quote:
3 Ninjas (1992)
After an organised crime ring proves to be too much for the FBI it’s time for the 3 Ninjas! They’re three brothers trained in the ways of the ninja. And the fun kicks off when the action kicks in! Using their martial arts skills, they team up to battle the crime ring and outwit some very persistent kidnappers!

3 Ninjas Kick Back (1994)
Following their grandfather to Japan, the three pre-teen Ninjas find themselves in the middle of martial arts mayhem. Pursued by an bumbling trio of dim-witted thieves and an army of well-trained Ninjas, Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum are up to their ears in high-kicking action and rapid-fire comedy.

3 Ninjas Knuckle Up (1995)
It’s a triple threat of fun, action and comedy when Rocky, Colt and Tum Tum’s friendship with a local Native American girl, Jo, pulls them into a modern day battle between the local Native Americans and a corrupt businessman. Armed with makeshift weapons and Native American lore, the three ninjas take their war party into the heart of enemy territory â?" the fortress-like Harding Waste Plants â?" for a show-stopping showdown of action and entertainment that everyone will enjoy.

3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain (1998)
While at their favourite amusement park, Mega Mountain, the three Ninja brothers witness the kidnapping of TV action superstar Dave Dragon (Hulk Hogan) and meet up against evil Lothar Zogg (Jim Varney) and his kid-hating boss Medusa (Loni Anderson), who want to hold the park hostage. The Ninja Brothers must strike back with vengeance!

I will get this... but I was hoping something was being worked on the US by a boutique. I know unlikely with the first film owned by Disney. I remember seeing Brad Henderson posting on Twitter about watching them. Then also a separate comment about TerrorVision working with Disney, so I got it in my head that TV maybe was going to be putting out a set.

First movie was produced through Dino de Laurentiis Communications with Touchstone landing distribution in the US. MGM bought most of the DDLC catalog which gave them overseas rights (and explains where ViaVision licenced it from).

The sequels were all through TriStar and controlled by Sony worldwide.

If Mill Creek was able to do new titles instead of just old stuff, I could have seen them releasing the first movie by itself and then the other 3 in a set.

I watched the crap out of the first three movies as a kid, I'll have to get this as long as the movies don't suffer from being 2 to a disc.

I've only seen 1, 2 and 4. Never seen the third movie.

When I was younger, I loved the girl in glasses in the 4th movie.

If this set doesn't have the shorter American cut of the first film, it will be a no go for me.

3 Ninjas is my childhood, and I don't want to watch something different from what I grew up with. The international cut even changes the outcome of the basketball game to the boys losing rather than winning.

They ought to put both cuts of the film on the disc.

I've sent an email to Via Vision asking them about it, so I'll report back when I find out.

Alright, I finally received a reply from Via Vision.

I am sorry to report that there is only going to be one cut of the film in this set- the extended international version.

This is very disappointing to me, and I'm not going to buy the set because of it. I really only like the first film in the series, and I want to see it exactly as I grew up with it in the 90s.

It's disappointing, because you would think they would put both cuts of the film in this set. I understand if the Australians are used to the international cut, but the United States has a much bigger market and I think most Americans buying this set are going to be expecting the shorter American cut of the film. Many people are going to buy this set and be confused, wondering why the film doesn't play the way they remember.

This makes me think about the situation with Dumb and Dumber, where only the abominable Unrated cut is available on Blu.

We need the American theatrical cut of 3 Ninjas! I wonder who owns the rights to put it on Blu here?

The DVD was released by Buena Vista (Disney), but the film isn’t on Disney+ so I’m not sure if they still have the rights or not.

Glad I still have my U.S. DVD of the first film, which I'll now be putting inside this set when it arrives.
