Oh, hell yes...

Sean Connery is the rare actor who can play Italians, Russians, and Spaniards without giving a damn about his accent and no one in the audience gives a damn, either, because he's Sean Connery.

Sean Connery could have played everyone in the entire cast of Fitzcarraldo and no one would have complained.

But not Irish cops in The Untouchables, his attempt at an accent was a bit ropey. Oh and bear in mind, The Hunt for Red October - Marko Ramius is Lithuanian and a captain in the Soviet navy, so he's not actually Russian.

And we get to Zardoz, seeing 'Big Tam' wearing a 'nut slinger' is a sight to behold.

He won an Oscar for it, and my high school girlfriend thought he was the hottest man alive, so he did something right. My girlfriend wasn't hot for Costner, Garcia, she was hot for 60 year old Connery. "Thish town shtinks like a *****housh at low tide."

Next thing you know, she's trying to dress me in 30's clothes.

I think Klaus Kinski might've objected

Sean Connery would have grabbed Klaus, put a gun in his mouth, and said, "David Mamet ish on my payroll."

But anyhoo, Connery was not pleased about the marketing of The Name of the Rose, said the studio.....I can't use his words because I'd get banned....how do I say this..."They messhed that all up." That's the safe version.

French Blu was so much better than the Warner US release so this is especially exciting.

What this underscores is we need more Annaud in 4K...The Bear, Seven Years in Tibet (would look gorgeous in 4K), Quest For Fire...hell Quest For Fire never even got a US release in Blu-Ray, and it was one of his most successful films financially. LONG overdue for a remaster.

I think The Lover is the only JJ Annaud that's been released in 4k.

Yes, outside of a Japanese "Enemy at the Gates" (master is on streaming too). So many of his films are geared towards cinematography/visuals/location work that 4K would really benefit his work highly. Here's hoping we get more in '24

Presumably it's unlikely Warners will do a UK release.

Is this likely to be fully English friendly, or will it be like The Bear blu where the French subs are forced with the English soundtrack?

This article states that Constantin, which owns the movie, carried out the 4K restoration. It has some comments from Annaud:

https://www.hdnumerique.com/actualit...m-rose-4k.html

In France, TF1 put out the 2013 BD which was a totally different (and superior) master to the one Warner released in many other territories.

Presumably, Constantin could license it to whoeever at this point. Maybe someone in the US could put it out as Warner's licensing agreement for this movie with Constantin expired a long time ago AFAIK.
