This is the specific d1 tape deck they’re looking for. BTS DCR-500

They are more likely to find a working Sony D-1 unit, as they were more prominent. I've heard that Sony's Pro Media/Broadcast division supposedly maintains hardware that old for the purposes of migrating lost content, so they might be able to help.

They said they tried Sony players and it doesn’t work with these specific tapes.

D-1 had low-end and high-end hardware and only the high-end players - newer - could handle the higher-resolution content that would have been coming out of Mainframe. Maybe that's what is happening here. Matt Patoray at Iron Mountain (Archival Service that deals with archiving/digitizing Entertainment assets, such as D-1 tapes) apparently has the hardware that are looking for and if anyone can handle the work, it's them.

There's a short segment HERE with a longer segment set to air tonight. It's basically the same update that was posted on their Youtube a few weeks ago, they have the decks but they don't work so they're asking if anyone out there used to work with these type of machines for assistance.

They look like they’re close to getting these tape decks to fully work, they’ve shown images from some of the tapes and it looks fantastic.

They got the decks working and have been transferring the tapes over, Mainframe Entertainment has the first episode up on their YT from the new transfer!

Hope they're able to help him out! A lot of people are getting hit hard and the fact he volunteers his time to do this even while struggling is real dedication

They're really going all out restoring and archiving everything they can! So damn cool to see all this stuff
