Wonder if it will be the rumored version that has upgraded CGI on CLU’s face. I know everyone here hates revisionism but I would make an exception for this. It’s literally the only thing holding this movie back from audio/visual perfection.

With a new Tron theatrical project in the works, it makes sense to bring Legacy and the original to UHD to help drum up interest. Maybe if we beg really nicely, they'll also throw in Uprising on BD.

Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way too on page 1 to temper expectations:

This movie was shot in 1080p just like Revenge of the Sith and Avatar. HDR is going to be the star here in terms of an upgrade. (And Daft Punk in Atmos if you have the setup for it) Hopefully this looks more like Revenge of the Sith’s UHD and less like Avatar’s.

They have good reasons to try to keep interest in the franchise going. Now let's see them releasing John Carter in 4k.

As a heads up - the mastering team at Disney has been very busy remastering this and several other titles that were 3D-Centric for the launch of the Apple Vision Pro and launch of 3D on Disney+. This is one of the titles. I know that Alice through the Looking Glass also went 4K HDR on Disney+ quietly. A full list of titles are awaiting announcement by press release from Disney/Apple with the official launch on 2/2.

The titles are being done in Dolby Vision 4K 3D with Atmos remixes and high frame rate/mixed frame rate on the Avatars. These masters can be used in Cinemas capable of showing the format and the Apple Vision Pro only for now.

The Tron ride is cool, been on it several times. But it's less than a minute of a ride from start to finish considering you'll wait a couple hours to ride it. Happy to hear about Tron Legacy it's a solid sequel but doesn't compare to the groundbreaking original. I hope we get that too.

I'm sure the original will be released as well. You can't just release the sequel when the original is just as important, if not more. I think that what happened here is that we got a sneak announcement from JK so until we hear otherwise, I'm just going to assume that the original will come out at the same time.

Without wanting to shoot the messenger, there's no updated CG. Just the usual Reddit-esque variant of "My friend's dad's dog's hairdresser's manicurist saw a version of Star Wars with updated stunt work on a laptop down the pub" that people then take as gospel.

Tron Legacy is not a perfect movie but it sure is fun. To this day it’s still my favorite imax 3d experience ever. The soundtrack/score with the visuals was just out of this world for the time that still holds up

TRON 3 started shooting this month, that's more likely the reason.
