Man, that's a bad title honestly something like "Sonic & Shadow Generations" would have been better or "Sonic Generations + Shadow's Adventure" and of course this will probably cost $70.
A similar title format as Nintendo does ya know: |

Sonic & Shadow Generations, not a great title. Why not just call it Sonic vs Shadow or something?
Sonic Generations was a 2D game. This is 3D, so I don't see the connection there. This looks okay, though it'll be in 3D space, so more room to roam around. |

Sonic Generations was an awesome game! Unfortunately, this version won't be in 3D.

The thing to note is that they call this a "Collection" but judging by how the second half of the trailer is, it's going to be one, another story retroactively put into Generations of what Shadow seems to be doing, and two: seems to be an in-universe recap of his history for newcomers so they don't have to remake, remaster, or port Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow The Hedgehog in prep for Sonic 3.

Looks good. I know it's part-remake (Evil Dead 2 style), but this may be to all intents the sequel Sonic Generations needed, but never got with Sonic Forces.

Sonic Generations was/is 3D and 2D hybrid depending which Sonic you played as. |

Thanks. I haven't played that game's 3D sections enough years ago to remember well enough. Sorry about that. All I remember is the hub section with areas locked, and the 2D sections feeling sluggish compared to the true 2D classic Sonic games, and never completed the full game unfortunately. That's my fault. The 3D on my 3DTV was cool to see. I should play it again as I still have the game.

I think emailking was referring to 3D TV support, not 3D gameplay. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions both supported 3D TVs but barely any games support 3D TVs on later consoles.

I would probably take the grinding pipes out of 3D Sonic. Sonic Adventure 2 had too many. Make it more about steering the hedgehog. Their whole design philosophy with 3D Sonic has been to reduce player input, because they never figured out how he should move. That's why all the pipe grinding is there, why the homing attack is there and why he starts steering on his own after you run into narrow paths or loops. Would be as if in a driving the car suddenly goes into auto-control and you can't disengage until the next section of the track. Playing Sonic in 3D should be kind of like steering a sports car once you go fast enough, jumps influenced by acceleration/momentum. The automation just looks cool, but is not fun.

Sonic Heroes was the worst for the overuse of rails IMO.

That's a reasonable point about comparing Sonic to a fast racing car. If you're going too fast for the turn, we should be able to slow Sonic down so he can stay on the track, with us being able to fully control him, rather than just sitting back and watching him go through everything automatically.
In the 2D Sonic games, I will honestly say 50% of the game is just watching Sonic going through fast pipes or loops with no direct input most times. Unless it's to choose a direction at one point. It's still fun, but that is one inherent flaw of the Sonic games I'd say. That reminds me of the Assassin Creed Games. Ubisoft decided to do most of the work for the player, taking away player control for things like jumping, climbing, balancing. You can literally close your eyes and you'll get there without any issues most times. Just push up on the analog stick and the game does the rest. Not a fan. Let me time the jumps, climbing and balancing. |

Well if anyone wants a domestic PS4 physical copy this was announced a bit ago. I'll be damned if I pay that just to get the game though. Looks like Japan and the UK will get standard editions so now I have to ask, what's the most affordable place to import games from?
