the same label's 4K of Beau Is Afraid has HDR10 and Dolby Vision, so I expect the same for this film as well.

I should have my copy tomorrow but don’t expect the best UHD ever considering it’s Leonine. I’d bet money that the on-screen titles are translated and everything from HDR to the audio is somehow homebrewed as so often with them. Hopefully they improved their encoding as I remember their early 4Ks being quite shoddy.

Got my MB from Amazon. I'm no fan of special packagings like Steelbooks or Mediabooks in general and only use them if no standard edition is available but I loathe them when they're made as cheaply as the one Leonine did for The Iron Claw. All-glossy surface, front and back, no other virtues - just a flimsy fingerprint magnet. I already know that it'll wear out as soon as you open it a few times and especially when reading the booklet.

Image-wise, it's an utter disappointment of an encode. Leonine, formerly Universum Film, learned nothing. They're the Kino Lorber of Germany, which fits nicely together with the shoddy quality of this edition. The picture encode looks just like one KL would produce with their new authoring house. It's literally as if they'd employ their AI and set-and-forget. This is one of those encodes where a few frames look nice and very detailed and then suddenly an entire frame turns to pixel mush. It's something I can't unsee and it's bothersome during the color sequences of the film. Highlights in general (the usual skies, lamps, lampshades, larger white surfaces etc.) look horrible with heavy macroblocking. At first, when seeing the initial B&W scene, I thought that this might be a solid encode (highlights aside) but as soon as the film switches to color, it's over.
Chroma is also a problem when paused and in motion. The DV grade (could be homebrewed by Leonine) can't properly hide it. I don't know whether it's FEL or MEL as the UHD is still locked as of today.

Some (not all) on-screen titles are (as expected) translated into German, such as "Based on a true story". The date and location indicators of the wrestling matches weren't altered and appear in the original font as seen in the US master.

Audio is also questionable. German is DTS-HD 7.1 and English 5.1. This edition seems to cater exclusively to those that view dubs.

Looking forward to offloading this thing again soon.

Sorry if I'm way off but does this mean the UHD is Region Locked like the Italian 4K Steelbook of Killers of the Flower Moon?

No worries, this is just referring to the software I’m using to import the UHD. I didn’t test the 4K on my Region A player when I had it but I assume it’s fine. We would’ve heard complaints about Leonine in the past if they locked their UHDs.

No, it’s not that bad. The 4K is better for example in the black and white opening.

No the 4K is not geo-locked.
