Paramount Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) Never in 3D

Just got confirmed for a 3D theatrical release! Didn’t see that coming.

Sonic 3 in 3D? That would be welcome. I hope it happens worldwide for 3D theaters if true. Thanks.

Doesn’t look like it’s confirmed but RealD expects it for some reason. We will see. It’s a perfect fit for pop-out effects. 3-D.

Just commented on RealD 3D's Instagram post asking about it and they themselves have replied that it's not really confirmed yet, there's no official announcement yet.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3Ar6..._web_copy_link

The way I see it is it looks like how RealD UK posted about Bullet Train and Uncharted hoping it would be released in 3D. Who knows, maybe Paramount is actually gonna do the needful and release it in 3D. So I'm not gonna hold my breath for it but I do hope this comes true in the end.

Nonetheless it would be fantastic if Sonic FINALLY got the 3D treatment because obviously the last 2 films would've been incredible in 3D but we didn't get it in the first place, so yeah, looking forward to it.

O interesting. I thought they only posted once they had a confirmed release. Has the US account ever mentioned a movie that didn’t end up getting a release?

It's always best to wait for official confirmation before creating a thread, we have had false alarms from RealD before:

Possible, to take some extra cash from Apple (Vision pro) users. But i doubt it! When I see in the near future that Paramount is releasing all their catalogue 3D titles on the VP (Scream, Wonderpark, Bumblebee, Spongebob 3), then I see a chance.

The first 2 wasn’t in 3D to make this in 3D wouldn’t really make sense. So i don’t buy it yet.

Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Underworld, Saw, Step Up, Resident Evil, Madagascar, 300, Hunger Games, Men in Black, etc
These are just a few examples of major franchises where the first, or first few movies were not in 3D.

That was when 3D was Big. Now fewer movies get 3D releases. So yeah like i say i think this is yet another INDY 5.

I see your point, and I'll hold out some hope for an "Avatar 2 Renaissance"; the 2nd Sonic film in particular seemed made for 3D to me.

Paramount did convert the last Scream film to 3D, so there is a precedent but wait and see is always the best policy. Paramount's approach to 3D hasn't made sense for several years now.

RealD doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing especially if they promote movies that turn out not to be released in 3D at all. But they’ve made tons of posts about 3D movies that hardly get played in theaters- a lot of times they’ll post a link to Fandango saying “get your tickets now!” and hardly any showings will be in 3D. They should spend less time posting that stuff and more time getting theaters to actually use their equipment.

It does seem odd that RealD 3D format is posting about new movies being released that are only in 2D. Sort of like if Dolby Stereo Surround Sound Format posted news about a silent movie release in theaters with no audio.

New posters are out and from the looks of it, it won't be getting a 3D release sadly.

There is still time left, around 4 months to go, so there may be enough time to get a 3D conversion done, but that's all up to Paramount to do so, they chose not to do the same for the previous Sonic films so it's unlikely that they'll do it for this. I hope they do a conversion nonetheless, this film looks ripe for the 3D experience.

I wonder why none of the Sonic movies have been in 3D? Seems like a very weird choice to not do the first two of these in 3D with these movies being based on video games with all the special effects they have.

It fell in the hands of one the worst possible studios when it comes to 3D.
