You can leave this thread up if you like as I'll be throughly testing and evaluating all of Samsung's 2024 TVs when they arrive, which will be soon.

I'll post all of the details and differences of the S95D and S90D.

I'll also post my 1st impressions of the QN900D, QN800D, QN95D, and QN90D.

The larger screens being MLA based rather than QD OLED makes sense from an economic PoV for Samsung but its a bit ironic since they claimed the superiority of QD OLED over WOLED

That said, its only now that LG added MLA tech and stuff to their 83" model. Personally i don't think most will go up that high, but nice to see it as an option for those that will.

I am a bit more interested in the next round of LG vs Samsung OLEDs for 2024. Personally don't plan to upgrade till the 2028 models are out, but seeing the year on year improvements is always nice.

Confusing yeah, but no different to how we've had it for years with LED tech being VA or IPS. You just need to do your research first if you care about the type of panel.

I imagine it'll be easy to determine - they'd be silly not to list it on the final specs sheet but if not, I'm sure the early reviewers and high-end AV retailers (as Robert says above!) will be able to help.

I just got an update that says only the 42", 48" and 83" S90D TVs will have LG Display's new 2024 WRGB OLED panels.

So the 77", 65" and 55" S90D should all have Samsung Display's new 2024 3rd generation QD OLED panels.

I will test and verify this and all other technical details when our 1st allocation arrives along with our 1st impressions of the S95D and the 2024 QD MiniLED TVs.

Default Samsung issues statement on reports of “panel lottery” in upcoming TVs

The weblink is working again and the news story now says 3-12-2024.

quote

"UPDATE: Samsung has responded to news reports that some of their 2024 OLED TVs would be subject to a “panel lottery” where consumers would not have a say in if they received a TV with Samsung’s QD-OLED panels or LG’s WOLED panels. While comparable, the panel types do have their own characteristics, including different levels of brightness."

@Darkmninya, yes we'll be testing and evaluating Samsung's S95D, and the S90D and also LG's G4 and C4 as they arrive in our store, which will start to arrive within 2-3 weeks max.

We'll also be testing and evaluating Samsung's QN90D, QN95D, QN800D and the QN900D along with LG 2024 QNED90T and the QNED89T 4K QD MiniLED TVs and the 2024 QNED99T 8K MiniLED TV.

Then on Friday, April 19th we'll have Stop the FOMO and Brian of Brian's Tech Therapy along with a couple well respected professional video calibrators in our store/showroom webcasting a live YouTube podcast comparing the differences between these new 2024 high-end OLED and QD MiniLED TVs.

"Samsung Display announced last year that, following their decision to stop producing LCD panels, they would be investing roughly $3 billion to build a new 8.6G OLED manufacturing plant. The company has now announced that the first installations for the plant have begun, and full-scale production is slated to start in 2026."

"FlatpanelsHD reports that the new plant will have an output roughly 10 million A6 panels per year. Samsung Display has commented that the IT panels produced by the new facility will be the “highest-generation line in the world” when production begins."
