As a member of the Unpopular Movie Opinion thread: I don't mind this movie and will gladly add it to my collection. I think it gets more hate than it deserves. It's not great, but I've sat through worse movies.

Agreed. I think it's about the same quality as most of the DCEU films they put out after it.

Agreed. I did a look. 18 DC films have been released since 2011. 9 of those have been better than Green Lantern. It's better than 50%, so that isn't horrible.

Put me down as one of the people who is actually a little excited to get this. I do hope that they do an Atmos track, since most of Warner's releases have upgraded the sound format, and I'd hate for them to skimp on this one.

I'd really love a commentary track but for whatever reason Warner doesn't seem very interested in doing commentary tracks on the DC films. The older Batman films have them as a legacy of the early DVD days when everyone did commentaries on every movie it seems like, but I don't think any of the DC films since Batman Begins has had one, have they? I doubt there will be any new extras either. If there are any extras at all it'll be because they release it with a blu ray that has all of the original blu ray extras.

Also, for those questioning why they're doing this, in addition to tying into Reynolds' popularity with the new Deadpool movie, this is going to be a fallow year for DC with no new films coming out until Joker. The re-release of Batman (1989) and the release of this will allow them to keep some DC revenue coming in. I suspect that a Superman Returns 4K announcement is also around the corner.

I do have a question about the listing that has shown up on the website. It says that it will be an upscaled 4K rather than a native 4K. How certain are we of this? I did a little digging, and I found these technical specs for the movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1133985/technical/

I'm not a person who knows a lot about the technical specs of film. From what I googled it seems like Super 35 can contain 4K data if the right camera is used. I do see on the technical specs that there is a 2K "digital intermediate", but I'm not sure if that's just because they only extracted 2K from the film or if there is only 2K available on the film to extract. I do realize that even if 4K is available they may just not want to spend the cost to go back to the original film if that is more expensive than just upscaling their existing transfer.

I'd be curious if anyone has more knowledge on this subject. I have heard that some movies made in the early 2000's were shot digitally in 2K, so it's impossible to ever have a true 4K transfer of those movies since the data just isn't captured like it was on analog film.

Most likely. They are running out of DC live action theatrical catalog that makes any sense to release on 4K at this point.
