Default We Own The Night, Don't make the mistake.

I bought it today as a blind buy and it may have set me off doing that anymore not by itself, but I have become dissappointed with the last few of those. This movie although under two hours just didn't want to seem to end. Acting was as suspected, good, but nothing that could overcome one of the bumpiest stories I've ever seen or heard. Some have compared it to The Departed which is fair but is nowhere in the same league. I was going to ask if I should buy this or Gone Baby Gone, which has to be better than this.

So rent or read reviews. No sympathy here for not liking a blind buy. Trade it and get a diff movie of ur taste so you dont loose out money on the movie.

Somehow I had a feeling this one wasn't going to be any good. Glad I passed on it. GBG was a good movie; I haven't watched the BD yet though.

dude...grow some. You are going to take three peoples opinions and decide to call it off?

I loved this movie. Great storyline and Joachim Phoenix was amazing...

don't even get me going about the Eva Mendez scene either...

I have to agree, that the movie was good. But to be honest, I have read alot of peoples comments concerning some movies. I would never go buy some one else's opinion. Just rent it first then buy...

It is not a matter of growing up. The last three blind buys: Good Luck Chuck, The Invasion, and The Brave One have been very disappointing. Kinda makes you gun shy.

I never buy movies by other peoples reviews.
Everyone has an individual taste as to like it or not. I used to listen to some friends telling me this and this movie is a must see / own and I have been quite disappointed by it... same the other way around, that I really liked something and other people thought its crap!
Sure you get a main idea of the buzz surrounding a flick if you're gonna like it or not. And of course there are some themes that you might like better than others... I for one very rarely purchase Comedy movies, once you've seen them, a lot of them are just not funny any more! Of course there are the few that will always be hilarious, but for a one time a year watch I might still settle just renting it.
Speaking for the blind buys I've done over the past few years (and it have been a lot) there have been a handful that I absolutely did not like after a repeat watching session.

I remember hearing only bad things about We Own the Night, so I blind bought Gone Baby Gone. Now that is a great movie.

I thought it was a little too predictable of a film, but I wouldnt say it was a bad film either. More along the lines of decent.

Two words: rotten tomatoes. Rottentomatoes.com averages dozens of critics scores giving you a fair review.

I'd never spend $20+ before doing at LEAST doing some research (a cool trailer does not count).

No Country for Old Men received an amazing 94% at RT. If you grow custom to that site you will know anything 90%+ is rare and very safe for blind buying.

We Own the Night got a dismal 54% score. That's what I call a "must rent".

I watched No Country for Old Men the other night, very different movie, was easy to follow but it just ended, not sure if I missed something but I am going to have to rewatch it to make sure before I say too much.
But very good plot though

So Rottontomatoes only averages scores from real critics, not regular people?

I rarely go to the site, so I'm not familiar with how it works.

I never blind buy, I will rent first and then if I like it I buy. Most time reviewers of movies don't know squat. Its all personal opinion and we all know that we have different tastes so just rent first and ask questions later. By the way I have not seen We Own The night, or Gone Baby Gone.
