Looks like a very nice release. It has 2 new commentary tracks, both with Park Chan-wook, which is great. Wouldn't be surprised if Arrow releases this on 4K too.

Would be really nice if this has a subtitle track that covers the entire movie and not just the Korean parts.
I don't know that those commentaries are actually new, but I think these are "new" in the sense that they've never been released with English subtitles before. |

- JSA: Par-delà la frontière, un entretien avec Park Chan-Wook (52 min) - Commentaire audio du réalisateur - Commentaire audio de l'équipe du film The PCW interview on the Umbrella could also be the one that's on the Jokers disc. BTW, the Umbrella 4K also has Dolby Atmos! |

Sorry I’m on mobile and can’t search that well…but how much of an improvement is this over the Arrow blu ray? An Arrow copy showed up at a used shop near me that I have credit for and the Collector’s Edition from Umbrella is sold out already anyway.
Just wondering if the Arrow blu ray still is a decent release for a first time viewing. |

Wondering the same. After quite awhile on my blind buy shelf, I Finally got around to Arrow's BD earlier in the year and fell in love with it. Now I'm looking to get a definitive edition for the collection.

However, compression is iffy/bad. Often in the high 20s and low 30s, resulting in mushy and artifacty grain at times. Also found a scene 28:55 - 29:15 where there is literally zero grain on the 4K and bitrate down to 18mbps; hard to say given its a new master if there was DNR applied in the master for a scene like this or if its all compressions fault. Note: that scene is shown in the above caps, the one named "Untitled_1.7.1". Also at times it seems like black level is higher than ideal but not knowing this movie well I can't say if this is an issue or not So definitely an upgrade from the 1080p blu-ray overall picture-wise, but there is definite big room for improvement on the encoding end. I think it took a long time for the first pressing of the old Blu-ray to sell out though, so it may be a while before another label makes a go at a 4K UHD. Even with the iffy encoding though its still worth the money to upgrade, because the color/contrast is so much better. Last edited by Ruined; 08-27-2024 at 12:51 AM. |
