United Kingdom Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster (2021, Thomas Hamilton)

Not got around to watching this yet but I see the director seems to be from the UK and is selling it on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364842833672 and his site as a LE https://www.voltage-films.com/

Karloff is a fascinating subject for sure.

Very interesting. Are the discs pressed or burned?

Pretty sure they're pressed from what I recall. Use of the DVD and Blu-ray logos should confirm that.

I think this showed originally on Shudder.

I bought it from Voltage in 2022 and have watched it several times. It’s an excellent documentary with fabulous extras and won a Rondo for best documentary in 2021.

Anyone who is a Karloff fan should love this.

Is the on-disc content identical for the LE and standard release?

Hi folks,

This is Tom Hamilton, director of Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster.

I wanted to clarify about the Blu-Ray/DvD & Limited Edition releases of Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster.
The DvD & BluRay are identical in terms of contents which are as follows:

Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster (2021)
original 102min release

PLUS THE FOLLOWING BONUSES
Boris Karloff: The Rest of the Story (2022)
An over 2 hour feature - which in addition to looking at many of Karloff's other film & TV appearances, contains interviews not or barely featured in TMBTM (eg Donnie Dunagen, Bela Lugosi Jnr, Sharyn Moffat, Nehemiah Persoff (who tells some great stories), Lee Grant, Christopher Plummer, Norman Jewison, Daniel Haller, Stefanie Powers, Virginia Bates (Crimson Cult), Jack Hill, etc, as well as more from Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Greg Mank, David Skal, Donald F Glut etc. While this is presented as a "rough cut" it has much for hard core fans to enjoy.

Meeting Boris Karloff (2022)
Short interviews with Kevin Brownlow, Anthony Pratt (John Boorman's Production designer & Karloff's great nephew), Tony Bilbow (British TV interviewer who interviewed Karloff for his last filmed interview)

Ron's Story (2022)
short piece with co-producer Ron MacCloskey on his passion for Boris Karloff.

A total of 4 hours material.

The Limited Edition Dual Format version also includes a 16 page illustrated booklet of the making of the film, with an essay on Karloff by author Stephen Jacobs. it's a very nice keepsake of the people who were part of the film, and some memorable off camera moments. (Check out John Landis setting up our green screen!)

NB Some posters have mentioned other additional materials such as "The Producer's Access Set" (which was the Dual Format edition plus an extra DVD: Producers Access DvD). Unfortunately the Producer's Access Set was STRICTLY LIMITED to those who pledged on our Crowdfunding campaigns (we ran 3 between 2018 & 2021). Our apologies to those of you who missed these campaigns, but the PAS DvD is now permanently discontinued.

Watched this and really enjoyed all the interviews it helped give me a good picture of the man.

Production quality wasOK. Blue/green screen was used sometimes and it was poorly done and it had annoying music constantly (which abruptly stopped often) throughout. I think they also missed twice the titles for an interviewee so I have no idea who he was.

Otherwise, a must see for cinema fans and a big thank you to the team that done the work.

Talking Pictures TV are showing this. It's already been on but I suspect they'll repeat it a few times.

Have you seen this? https://www.voltage-films.com/ignition-group-2

I got this in an email from them:
"halfway through filming the Price and Chaney projects and need 15 more interviews to complete them. We had planned a Kickstarter for June but had to postpone. So to keep the production moving we are offering a limited number of new subscriptions to our Ignition Group. Ignition Group subscribers make a small monthly investment and enjoy rewards like on-screen credits, DVDs and a share in the eventual profits."

I am not aware of any other company offering shared profits from a release. Certainly a novel idea.
