![]() Because, like me... You are waiting on a 4K UHD release to improve on the disappointing PQ/SQ of the Shout release. ![]() |

I watched my copy and was a bit disappointed. Grain wasn't scrubbed at all, thankfully. But there seems to be digital sharpening going on, most of the time unfortunately. So I see it the same as Dr. Svet in the site's review.
This digitally processed image was disturbing to me especially since I love the movie itself - it was much better than I remembered. Yes, it exaggerates and stereotypes, but that's very conscious; just the language of 80's comedy on film. It's also very humane and portrays cultural differences quite sharply (no pun intended ![]() Anyway, back to the pq: I get the pretty much same sharpening effect when I increase "sharpen" in my projector (Xgimi Horizon S Pro). That is the reason I leave it to zero. But of course you cannot remove the added sharpness when it's baked onto the disc. Someone overdid it. Luckily there was a solution to make the film much more watchable: I dialed the projector slightly out of focus. The result was pretty good and much more filmlike, 4/5. (Unfortunately this solution isn't available for TV's.) |

Keeping fingers crossed this is the correct 2.35:1 ratio. Wasn't this cropped on DVD ?

It's more like "When have we released anything where we admitted it was in the wrong ratio?" When they add an "especially" qualifying statement after it, doesn't that kinda negate the "when have we released"? Kinda not needed if you've never done it period. It's like they are aware of the couple of titles where people claimed the image was stretched and the AR was wrong. |

Also, I just checked my Vudu digital copy and it is 2.35 AR. I haven’t watched this in a long time so I can’t remember if it was 1.78 before. Also, it is not an impressive HD master. A lot of reddish skin tones. |
