Hi
I am having trouble with 4k discs glitching about three quarters way through a movie. The movie continues to play but the sound goes off and the picture breaks up. It lasts about 10 to 15 seconds. It's happened with Jaws, Psycho (both Universal) and Basic Instinct. Regarding Psycho, it was the only one to glitch from the 4k Arrow boxset. Is there a layer change at this point? The player is a Panasonic DMP UB 400 Thanks |

Might be a silly question but have you tried cleaning the discs? I have had a few discs that would do exactly what you described and I found cleaning the disc solved the issues for most of the discs.

No, I haven't tried cleaning the disc. I will try this. Only thing is, I'm concerned I will add micro scratches. |

Yes those are BD-100s it's the final layer change, too many variables to know why it's happening to you but cleaning or trying a different copy of the same disc usually reveals something.

Thankyou. If it's a layer change that would explain it as it's always about the three quarter mark. I will try cleaning the discs.

I've had this happen with a number of 4K discs - Scarface, Casino, 13 Hours to name just three; my player is the OPPO 4K, given up returning them to Amazon because the same thing happens with the replacements; cleaning them makes no difference.

Somewhat same solution here. Improving ventilation completely fixed problems with 100GB discs for me. For Sony players, I think the most effective way is to place the fan behind the player near middle, where the ventilation grid is located at the bottom of the player.

'Casino' was the worst - the Universal logo glitches after inserting the disc all the way to the menu. The rest glitches progressively from the 30 minute mark as the disc plays. The disc is completely pristine and free of any visible defect. Replaced them on Amazon UK for EU versions - except for 'Braveheart' - 2nd purchase from Amazon US got me a German made pressing. Some older BD-100s from 2018 and 2019 are still fine to my surprise- 'Alien' (there are some recent posts about new copies of this disc glitching also), '2001 space odyssey', 'Phantom Thread', 'Lord of the Rings' (a few discs have minor scratches but play fine). |

I've only watched one 4K disc so far (the original Highlander), and it was purchased brand-new from Amazon. It played fine for the first 80 minutes or so, then froze for no apparent reason. I tried using the Fast Forward and Chapter Skip buttons, to no effect. I freaked out briefly, then gathered my nerves to eject the disc and re-insert it. I then went to the film's Main Menu, and used the Chapter Selection to pick up where I had left off. To my great surprise and joy, the previously affected scene and the rest of the movie had no more problems.

Well, I was just trying to find a 4K player that matched my TV's specs, and didn't cost a lot of money. After the first model I purchased last month, which was $150, I kept searching for better ones...but they all were $300 or more. I'm on SSI, so while I don't have a lot of bills, I still have to be very careful with my other purchases. The Sony UBP-X700 ran about $200 plus tax at Wal-Mart, and aside from that one glitch I haven't had any other issues. To be honest though, that's mainly because I haven't used it the past 2 weeks. I spend so much time on my computer, either online or doing image editing, that I lose track of time very easily. I did buy three more 4K films recently though, and I'm excited to see how they turn out.

No one knows till they get a Sony, it's a shame, I did the same as you, just wanted a cheap player, it's all digital anyway... but the freezing became too much since everything is a BD-100 now, so I had to go bigger for my sanity. It's a clear design flaw with the Sony models they have not addressed.

I love when people generalize from their limited experience- perhaps only one player- to a whole brand. That's the internet for you; misinformation abounds.
I've had just a couple minor hiccups with my X800-M2- possibly disc related. And I know of no player that's never had any issues. The X700 seems to have more reports of problems. And some M2s have reported lots of issues. All models of UHD players have had some reports of problems- even the sacred Oppos, the most expensive Panasonics, Reavons, Magnetars, etc. With only anecdotal evidence, it's hard to say which is most reliable. And there are many variables: are discs clean?; is the player well-ventilated?; level/on a platform well-isolated from vibration? There are many satisfied sony users; there's no design flaw, except maybe designs inherent in UHD playback, with miniscule tolerances and problematic disc production. There seems to be a bit of a lottery whether you get a robust player from any manufacturer. Based on my experience, i can recommend the x800 M2. But that's only one data point. Whatever one buys, I recommend a lot of testing (watching) during the return period and if it's problematic, return it for another player, whether the same or a different model. |

Well, I purchased my X-700 on June 2nd, and since it is now a full month, I can no longer return it. Initially, I was only able to buy three movies because the player was so pricey. This time, I wound up doing the same, but it wasn't due to any high-priced item: my shower chair broke and I had to find a more stable one. It wasn't super-expensive, but that was a $50 amount I didn't see coming.

I'm having the same issues with some of my 4K movies. The first time I watched them, they were fine, but after that, I'm having some glitches. Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade; Karate Kid II; Twister all have glitches. They're barely used but they still messed up for a short while, or like Karate Kid II, it stayed frozen and the remote commands didn't help.
What makes no sense is that I've played DVDs and Blu-Rays that were scratched and finger printed and they played much better than some of my 4K's. |

I have the Samsung and no films have ever skipped or froze, I generally watch 1 film a evening or if i do a season then 2 or 3 episodes. I have binge watched some shows and marathoned the LOTR and Hobbit along with other franchises and have seen most my collection multiple times. I’ve had to update it once for the 3rd Planet of the Apes and had one bad disc that had a digital blocking scene for like a 2 second period that did it on all players in the same time stamp. (one of the 3 discs from the Touch of Evil Kino set.) Everything else has been peachy keen, sad Samsung dropped out of the game. She has been a beauty! I need to buy a couple back ups
