When the first outbreak of the Reaper virus hit Scotland, Eden Sinclair was one of the last to escape containment and had to leave her mother behind. Twenty-five years later, Maj. Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) leads a team back into the hot zone to find a counteragent to the virus, which has re-emerged in London. Guilty pleasure gore deluxe. And it has Bob Hoskins. Will get this 100%, if it's the unrated version.

Yup, guilty pleasure fun, but the shaky cam / quick cut / super closeup action scenes really killed my enjoyment of it on a recent rewatch. Maybe it's something we've gotten away from, thankfully, and forgot how terrible it was, but it's really REALLY bad in this movie.

That and slo-mo. Glad filmmakers have moved past that nonsense.

I didn't like this film initially but it has grown on me and now I love it. It's a mish mash of Escape From New York, Mad Max and a host of modern zombie films all rolled into one...Marshall was clearly influenced by them. He even used the same font as EFNY for the titles lol.

I have a hybrid DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of this and have been wanting to replace it for a long time.

Yes.

No violence/gore was cut from the theatrical/R rated version. It's nice that the MPAA loosened up in the 2000's, since this stuff would've been snipped in the 90's.

Actually, yes. Just check the cut comparison. The unrated version features no additional gore over the theatrical version. Just found that out a couple of days ago.

Disc - BD-100

PQ - 4k Dolby Vision - I think it looks really good. There's a nice layer of grain. Rhona Mitra in 4k...WOW!

There are some stylized shots that look softer than the rest of the film.
** Keep in mind that I briefly skimmed through the disc.

AQ - DTS-MA 5.1 - Impressive, robust sound; car chases, explosions, gunfire sound great.

Been meaning to watch the old blu and forgot about it over time. Agree with others that The Descent is awesome; it'd be interesting to see how the dark scenes look with hdr and a new scan.
