United Kingdom MaXXXine (Ti West, Mia Goth, Giancarlo Esposito, December 2024)

Really looking forward to seeing this.

Lions Gate doing a 4K for the USA https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?p=22252827

Hopefully a 4K will appear from Universal in the UK or Germany.

Why is this in the U.K. section? Are A24 releasing it on disc here?

No it’s being released by Universal in the U.K. at cinemas and on disc.

I assume the OP posted the US trailer from A24 as that’s longer than the official U.K. trailer.

Why wouldn't it be in the UK section, it's a UK Blu-ray? As I said it's Universal.

A24 aren't doing any discs from what I can see. Universal have it most places for home video and hopefully we'll get a trilogy which will suit these beauties from Germany:

In the UK, Entertainment Media distributes X whereas Universal distributes Pearl and MaXXXine unless Universal gets the rights to X I don’t think we will get a trilogy box.

FYI, X & Pearl are both in the current '£4.99 With Any Purchase' offer at HMV.

Use the 20% off code & you can get them for £2.99 a piece! (no, the maths doesn't work, but trust me. )

Why does the UK constantly only get the Blu-ray version of these films with a German only (but still English friendly and easily importable) 4K. Just doesn't make much sense to me?

Maxxxine is also getting a vanilla release in Germany too https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=375493

Turbine and Capelight must have a close relationship with Universal and others to do a special limited edition. Lots of examples of that. Universal have a big UK base (Elstree I think) so maybe they prefer to do there own thing here.

There's a 4K from Lionsgate in the US https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=375490

If there's no mediabook from Germany I'll get the US 4K.

Back cover:

They'll need a 2nd disc for all those extras.

The extras aren’t so special at all but it would be nice to have something. Notice that blu-rays are starting to get Dolby atmos.

Pearl makes no mention of extras on the back but they're on the disc, so hopefully that's the case with this too.

Nowt in Germany so I'd expect the same.

As usual there's loads of great content on YouTube but it would be nice to getting something specifically made for the release.

4K US review: https://whysoblu.com/maxxxine-4k-uhd-blu-ray-review/

US extras:

Belly of the Beast – Details the film as the third of a trilogy and the actors and crew enthusiasm in making the film.

XXX Marks The Spot – All about the overall look of the film – Grit, neon, and influences from Repo Man and Giallo horror are mentioned. Also, of course, all the Hollywood goodies that pop up in the film are described. This one is super fun!

Hollywood Is A Killer – This chronicles the makeup and digital effects of the film.

Q&A With Ti West – 25 Minutes with the director

Not that I was buying the UK Blu-ray. 4K US for me although will hold off for a few weeks for a price drop and to see if anything pops up in Germany from Turbine or Capelight (I'd assume that's a few months away even if it happens and unlikely to have all those extras).

Both X and Pearl were on sale and/or discounted 'when bought with' around the time of MaXXXine coming out.

I wonder if these will be shelf warmers for a while. I'd like to get them at some point, but I'm in no rush. I would have liked a trilogy boxset, but the rights seem messy looking at the cases. Also, wasn't there talk of Ti West and Mia Goth making a fourth entry?

I really enjoyed these three movies, but I wished that at the end of MaXXXine she
[Show spoiler]would have imagined the life of fame and fortune, glitz and glamour, before saying in unison with her father 'I will not accept a life that I do not deserve'. Then, she'd blow his head off - and the cops would gun her down. As Maxine takes control of her life in that moment, and comes to terms with her place in the world, the dream dies, torn apart in a hail of bullets. We'd stay a moment with the bodies - the sounds of police officers and the helicopter swarming around us in the mix - before zooming slowly into her eyes as Bette Davis Eyes begins to play.

It would have been a perfect ending for me. I didn't understand why
[Show spoiler]they showed her on the red carpet, snapped back to her holding her father at gunpoint, only for her to go on and actually live that fantasy. It should have been her imagination, her dreams.

4K mediabook for Germany https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=384806

Nicely that will go with my other 2 Ti West mediabooks.

I really wanted to like Maxxxine but its the ending 3rd that really spoilt it for me.

I enjoyed X and Pearl - The ending of the trilogy just wasn't great.

Mia was great in the film and I quite enjoyed Halsey's performance and its a film I didn't expect Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) to be in but good for her. Elizabeth Debicki was ok. Had some good moments but shame the end was what it was.

Defo would give it a watch with the other two again as i've only seen it once in the cinema!
