USA The Devil's Hand 3D Blu-ray (1961) [Region Free] [BD-R]

Another of the new Plan-D 3D Blu-ray releases is the 1961 horror film "The Devil's Hand".

The plot follows Rick Turner, a man who becomes entangled with a mysterious woman named Bianca Milan after dreaming about her. He discovers that Bianca is part of a cult that worships Gamba, an ancient deity. As Rick delves deeper into the cult, he finds himself drawn into a world of dark rituals and sinister forces.

So far, I have purchased this movie along with The Brain That Wouldn't Die from the Plan D catalogue. Between these two releases, I think TBTWD has a slight edge in its 3D presentation. The source material obviously is the most important factor in the conversion process to 3D. The opening scene in TDH is slightly dark and fuzzy but after a couple minutes it settles into pretty decent 3D. Frankly, I would have to say that I don't see too much of difference between the EyePop and Plan D processes. Sorry for saying this after all that hard work you do with EyepPop But I'm certain a direct A-B comparison would bring out some key differences (tops of heads with hair extending slightly to the background, for one).
All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchases. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for your comment. It's actually good to hear you couldn't tell much difference - our aim is to try to keep our standards as high as possible in terms of the actual conversion, and to use somewhat different techniques to deal with visual anomalies.

What we find is that we run through each conversion in sections and repeat the process of finding and fixing flaws - so for example my current EYEPOP project on part 01 I am on revision 7, effectively meaning I've gone over this 8 times! What happens we've found, is that with each iteration you fix the most obvious flaws, then when reviewing you spot the next most obvious one - so by Revision 7 there should really be very little left to fix (that is fixable within reason). On a Plan-D release I'm certainly aiming to only do 2 or 3 revisions maximum which saves a lot of time. With that time saving plus not doing lengthy & demanding Kickstarters or all the design & production stuff, nor having to manage stock/distribution it's quite amazing how much time can be saved.

The downside though, and the biggest ongoing risk here, is without the Kickstarter (even though prices are substantially cheaper than our EYEPOP discs) sales are considerably lower, a real lot lower than anticipated.

Andrew & Phil:

I realize many folks in the biz (and many here on this forum) think this is a nutty idea, but what the heck....

Might it be worthwhile to poll/survey fans as to what titles (from a shortlist provided by you) they'd most like to see converted? You could post the survey to your site... and maybe even here on this forum (?)

I know surveys aren't a scientifically proven indicator of ultimate sales, but I'm guessing they couldn't hurt... (?)

Yes the source wasn't the best - but too good an opportunity to create those pop-out shots to miss out!

Not blanking you just been really, really busy on probably the most complex conversion stuff I've done which will be my next EYEPOP release, likely first quarter of 2025. There's a change of plan involved and one you're gonna be VERY pleased with I reckon!

In terms of polls we have run them a couple of times on the big Facebook groups, and relatively interesting but yeah it's no guarantee and often just ends up in people telling me all the copyright films they want converted.

Worse than that was the response to the Kickstarter questionnaire when we released Last Man on Earth... I asked if people would purchase a copy of "Electric Man" as it hadn't been funded on Kickstarter and 150+ said yes... but that didn't quite happen. I've got a cupboard full of them.

I just got this in and took a peek. The first thing I noticed was that every 23rd frame is repeated, which causes jerky-motion artifacting, especially noticeable during camera pans. This is a pity, because otherwise the film looks quite good and the 3-D is nice. Can the frame-repeat error be fixed?

It's not something I particularly noticed but then it seems to be one of those things that certain people are more prone to spotting - I have problems with blended frames which really bother me as they look like a mushy mess when viewing.

In terms of doing anything as it's in the source footage there's nothing I'm aware of that can be done, at least not within my tools/skillset - as I mentioned previously the source for this wasn't great quality but the pop-out opportunities with certain shots were too enticing to miss.
