This should look quite beautiful in 4K.

Interesting that Kino picked up UHD rights despite saying it wasn't big enough for the format and the master being finished SDR. Guess the BD sold well for them or Universal offered it up cheap as nobody else was gonna drop coin on a title like this.

Since this is a new master I wonder why Universal didn’t give it an HDR grade.

This is why old poster art isn’t always the best choice.

Not sure I follow, the poster looks great and gives an accurate sense of the hip/mod 60s style of the film.

Art is subjective. Good to have different opinions.

True, but maybe you can explain what you don't like about the artwork?

I'll gladly listen with an open mind.

Maybe you could even post a few examples of styles you would have preferred for this title? Could generate an interesting conversation.

Actually I don't like it either and it's got nothing to do with being old. For me having the image repeated three times on what is a small piece of paper doesn't work, it might have on a large poster at the cinema but not as the disc cover, the image is too small. Then the choice of colour, it looks very bland. I personally prefer these two covers I've found which I don't think are great either, regardless sooner or later I will get this movie:

For me it’s the repeating image, the ULTRA MAD ULTRA MOD ULTRA MYSTERY tagline, and the way Sophia Loren looks like a spider. It’s just extremely tacky.

Most of the posters are equally unappetizing, but this German one might do the trick:

But what’s done is done, and I’m not gonna let the cover art discourage me if it’s an otherwise good release.

I think the original poster would have worked better with the captions above them if it was three different poses or shots of the two characters rather than a repeat of the same image three times. I do like the color scheme though, and the overall motif fits the 60s mod style as James says.

I like that it's the original US poster art, reproduced exactly, even with the multi-color borders.

I also find the 3x duplication of the image really fun and inventive visually.

Here's a rough mock-up I did, and two variants

It started as this original poster, which I liked. After the first image was done, I felt it needed a border, so I took the one from the original artwork, and then a second one with color scheme that matched that particular art. Took about 10 mins to do, so I'm sure someone with actual photo-editing skills could do better. Personally I like the third one the best, but I'm not sure if it's actually a more appealing cover than the one they're going with. Although, a beautiful Sophia Loren front and center is bound to be appealing regardless
