Default CNBC reporting Paramount/Universal News

http://www.cnbc.com/id/23214167/for/cnbc/

Should Toshiba exit the business, companies supporting its HD DVD format _ including General Electric Co.'s Universal Pictures and Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures _ would be released from their contracts, the Journal said, citing a person familiar.

That's going to happen within a day or two. Toshiba is not going to keep making "marketing" payments for a format they no longer make products for.

They're taking an unholy beating, financially, and that's one vein that's going to be cauterized right away.

Also, remember that one of their key gripes about losing was the "failure of marketing"....read between the lines.

I am sure that Paramount and Universal are waiting for Toshiba to make its announcement, before making theirs.

Bill Hunt implied it was possible Paramount and Universal could do it before Toshiba.

Doesn't this bring back memory when Circuit City Divx went belly up?
I was so releive because I was a DVD early adopter back then. I bought it the first month it came out.

NBC is also owned by GE. Maybe they have insider information.

And that sentence, "Should Toshiba exit the business, companies supporting its HD DVD format _ including General Electric Co.'s Universal Pictures and Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures _ would be released from their contracts, the Journal said, citing a person familiar." appears edited to remove hints about who the source is.

These reports say Toshiba is in the final stages, inferring that this has required some lead-up. I'm sure Paramount and Universal have also been working on the change for a while. This is the week.
