I haven't seen any of Edgemont or Burden of Truth, but she was mostly great on Smallville, and I liked her on Beauty and the Beast as well. She's appeared on Michael Rosenbaum's podcasts "Inside of You" and "Talk Ville" several times, sharing stories about her life and career. I really love her smile and her laugh; its very infectious and adorable. The final scene between Lana & Clark in Season 8 of Smallville was almost Shakespearean in tone; I completely believed the heartbreaking element of it. She and Tom Welling must have rehearsed it to death, just to get it right. As a fan, I'd love to meet her someday; she doesn't seem to have the typical "I'm better than you" actor's ego.

I couldn't stand Lana at first, it took years for her to grow on me.

The writers admitted to struggling with keeping Lana relevant in the show's later years, but in the beginning I thought she was mostly adorable. The idea of Clark's main emotional conflict being that his arrival on Earth killed her parents was genius writing, and it served as the undercurrent of their relationship for a long time. Lois was different because she didn't have that connection, and coming from a military background gave her more of a hard edge compared to a Kansas cheerleader. Lana's own darkness came later, usually because of being manipulated by both Lex & Lionel...and the way Kristin played it, those moments seemed like there was always a battle taking place in her mind. Fans of the show who hated her thought she was either weak or overused, but my own opinion is that they were doing their best to keep what was left of her humanity intact. She did some very questionable things over the course of the show, but ultimately sacrificed what she wanted more than anything to protect others...and I think that's a very good definition of a hero.
