Halloweentown 4 movie bundle - Blu-ray Forum

Daughter's favorite Halloween series. Bought the 4 movie bundle off Vudu/Fandango and noticed that the original and 3rd are 4x3 while 2 and 4 are letterboxed. Disney+ shows them all in some sort of letterbox format.

Since these are disneychannel movies they aren't moviesanywhere. Do the other services have the disney+ versions?

From what I can tell 1-3 are all SD, even though the bundle and each individual movie is marked HDX. 1 and 3 are worse than SD, they look like 16x9 squished to 4x3 to me. I know I have watched all 4 of these movies in 16x9 widescreen on the Disney Channel, guess that is the version they have on Disney+. I assumed at some point VUDU would fix these but maybe nobody has complained about it. Anyone know the best way to point out these types of mistakes to VUDU?

The first three Halloweentown movies were produced in SD video whereas the fourth (Return to Halloweentown) was HD. The original aspect ratio for the first film is 4:3, which is apparent when you compare it against the 16:9 version on Disney+ and Disney Channel HD, which is actually cropped to 16:9 (a few other DCOMs got this same treatment like Smart House and Horse Sense). The second and third film appear to be a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 footage as some shots appear to be cramped while others are opened in the 16:9 versions of those two. The fourth film was produced entirely in 16:9.

The DVD releases are all 4:3 (which is actually beneficial for the first film, but might not be ideal for the later ones depending on your preference). The iTunes versions of 1, 3, and 4 are 16:9 (same as the Disney+ and Disney Channel HD prints) whereas 2 is 4:3 for some odd reason. No idea about the prints on other digital services.

There are two different bundles still available in DVD on Amazon and other vendors from third parties.
