Sony Pictures My Girl 4K UHD (1991)

SYNOPSIS

A coming-of-age comedy starring Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis, Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumsky, MY GIRL is an irresistible story of first love and loss. Chlumsky makes an extraordinary acting debut as Vada Sultenfuss, a precocious 11-year-old tomboy obsessed with death. Dan Aykroyd is her widowed father, the town mortician, and Jamie Lee Curtis is the cosmetician he employs. Macaulay Culkin, in an endearing performance, is Thomas J., the boy next door who idolizes Vada. Their summer adventures — from first kiss to last farewell — introduce Vada to the world of adolescence. The perfect film for parents to share with their children, MY GIRL is a motion picture to cherish.

It has been 4K on digital for years now, although not with DV/HDR. I'm glad the new transfer is finally on disc.

Yes, please. And please with proper blacks and without shitty encoding at the same time. On BD Sony only provided the one or the other.

I watched this once, maybe twice when I was younger. Not sure I want to ever revisit it. Very good movie, but just really depressing.

It is pretty grim for a kid's movie. Aykroyd even works as a funeral guy from what I remember. It's just not a feel good movie that I could throw on any time of the year on a whim like Home Alone 1 and 2.

Bought this one on both dvd and blu but last watched the movie on probably vhs in the 90s. I hate that I treat many physical media releases like Funkos. But that said, I would like to revisit this at some point. Hopefully Look Who's Talking gets a physical uhd as well and at least Too gets a blu. And as an aside, bees are so annoying; I always have bad reactions to stings and get a lot of pain and major swelling for several days each time.

Disney doesn't care about the Fox catalog... they have the Star Wars franchise to milk so that's all that matters.

Not that I want to defend Disney, but they have too big of a catalogue for them to handle and release on their own. Disney+Fox+ every single thing they own combined is too massive to release. It'd take decades to release not even a small percentage.

That's where boutique labels do part of the work for you but Disney isn't somehow open for licensing a lot like MGM/Paramount/Warner/Universal are. Which is a shame, because really, the boutiques are basically doing half of the restoring work for them.

..That said, no excuse, because Home Alone is a big franchise they can always bank on, and Home Alone 2 has a 4K master since a couple of years ago, so there's no excuse.

This one gets mentioned a lot and for good measure. It was a highly anticipated sequel that we loved as kids. Home Alone and Home Alone 2 were movies I watched pretty much all year round and many times would just watch them back to back. It's kind of baffling that this still does not have a physical uhd. Even if it's sold as a double feature with the first film, please make it happen, Disney.

I got the HA 1 & 2 bundle blu-ray from Disney Movie Insiders for my wife before they shuttered. Sure, a 4K bundle release would be great, even if I'm not a big fan of the films outside of John Williams score and Culkin and company having loads of fun, and Columbus has a gift with young actors.

It's not a bad movie, but fairly dramatic indeed. Definitely glad it's coming out, but I do wonder if it's another one of those MOD ''stay in the US'' only titles.

Wasn't this one a ''Mastered for 4K'' title, by the way? As in the 4K master is not new/fresh.
